What size of knife would you suggest to use with a tomahawk?

I am trying to decide which set (knife+tomahawk) to buy. Would 5 inch knife be too short?

Depends on your purpose. If the knife will be used for general utility the I'd go with a 3 1/2-5" blade.

If your wanting to practice knife and tomahawk combatives then a blade 7"-11" long is about standard.

Are you talking about a knife/hawk for work, or a knife/hawk for fighting?

A 5" blade is really the worst for everything and the best at nothing. It's too big for carving, its too small for chopping or fighting.

Like Mike said, a 3 1/3" blade for work and a much bigger knife for fighting.
