In my never ending search for steel I have come to the point where I am considering low carbon steel for guards and fitting and such. There are a few providers in Jersey that I will be speaking to and I'll be looking into 304, 317 and any other suggestions you might have. I'm also wondering what sizes and widths would be worth stocking.

I guess if I had the opportunity to make a knife I would have this solved but it seem I spend most of my time with bars of steel and a roll of Duct Tape. Well.....maybe someday:o

I've been using 1/8 inch for my leuku type through tangs, but 1/4 inch and 3/8 would be nice. 1/8 inch is easy as pie to find laying around.

you know what i want for 440 :D

I have been using some 416 in 1/4 x 3/4 and it has proven to be a very good size for the hunters that I make. The 1 in size had me grinding a bunch off of the sides.

Check out www.onlinemetals.com its where i get my sheets of 304L ss for balisong handles. The L is a little easier to work then standard 304.i use there 3/16" which mics in at about .185: thick.
