I thought my addiction to damascus was bad but... I tried some mosaic. Now that I've made a bar I want to expand my work to include mosaic on a regular basis. The problem is I don't know what size most folder makers want. Also what size do you guys prefer your bolsters to be? Please include three dimensions. :)

Thanks for the help fellas.

I'd like some damascus bolsters that are thicker than 1/8"

Maybe 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" x 3/16"

I like 1/8"X 1" mosaic with pure nickel included but will buy wider. If you have something you have for sale don't hesitate to send me some pictures at niro@telus.net To see some of my work you can google my name and I will be that folder maker that comes up. Thanks. Frank

Frank this is what I made the other day, I stacked the bars wrong but I still like the way it came out. I could do 5,11, or 13 layers for the same price in either of the patterns. Now is just need to figure out a fair price.

This was the pattern I was going for.

Also I am thinking of including a little pure nickle in my work. Maybe a month down the road if all goes well.

Thanks for the input fellas.

Dan,
That looks like a large basket weave pattern.

For my folders I want stock from .105 to .125 or even a little thicker is fine. I would prefer stock that does not leave me a piece that is an "L" shape after I cut out a blade so anywhere from 5/8 wide to about 1 inch. Length is whatever you make it but I need 1/2in for the pivot area so a 3-1/2in piece will give me a 3in blade.

If you pre-forge a generic blade shape that would also be great, that way the pattern follows the shape of the blade and does not fall off the edge.

For bolsters I like them 1in wide and 1-1/4 minimum long, 1X 1-1/2 is good.

Lets see some bias forged ladder pattern!

Chuck, great idea! I think I can forge the generic shape on the entire billet and then cut it up into bars. I'll give it a shot once my metal shear arrives since I'm down to one bandsaw blade and don't want to dull it cutting more 15n20. During the wait I'll finish up that bar of bias ladder pattern. :)

Thanks Frank! Its nice to be reassured that I'm not charging too much. :)

Thanks again fellas, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me.

No doubt about it, in my opinion Chuck's suggestion of a forged to shape generic pattern would sure work for me too. Frank
