What skill are you working on?

I'm working on the lariat braid for the cordage contest. I've worked on it for 2 hours. I finally had to color 3 of the 4 pieces of string but I got the braid down and it looks good. Now to harvest some grass to work with.

Well...I'm still working on understanding the workings of the feminine mind...as a husband and father of two daughters this could be an important survival skill :)

Oh, and I'm still working on the hand drill...

I have four Girls

Does this make me a survival expert??

Trimming down and distance
bow drill needs to be worked on again (been a while since I have done it)
Marital Arts (the whole family is working on it)

What skill are you guys trying out?

Not getting bitten by an aggressive, fast charging, water snake. I’m doing alright. :)

Wild plant identification and foraging. I've only been to the hospital once, and it was false alarm. Fig is everywhere these parts, alder chew, calluna, mint, clover, of course, the various oaks and their acorns. Slow going, patience building, but fun, because of the detecting work. It is a perfect hobby for those who love equally the axe and the book.

Shooting, both with the carbine and handgun.

Fishing... although "what skill are you working on" I suppose implies improvement. I am missing something. Need someone to show me.

Sharpening... found sandpaper and strop easier than waterstones.

Masonry, unbelievable how much skill and experience goes into lime and wall work. No choice though but to keep improving.

These are the "active ones" deliberately working on, but generally all of the olden skills are dallied in for fun and profit.
Just made a quick batch of wine from wild grapes, the second batch was pasteurised to cider after a 5 day fermentation. Home made soap sucks, but I am sure it could be improved with practice. Get the fat from the larder, I used butter and olive oil and got the lye fromwoodash. A lot of work for a few hard cakes.

Would love to try tanning, basketweaving, forging, woven sandals, vegetable dies for when I am tired of trying to eat them.

Depends, how old is the oldest :D

23, 21. 19, and 15
They all know how to hike, make a camp, and set a fire.
(and drink my single malt)

Not connected...
I am working on renewing my axe skills and learning batoning
And then fire lighting using ferro rods and tinder
Carving walking sticks
