What small flipper?

It is always best to read the applicable statutes and case law yourself, but the following may be useful. Note that all of this discussion is about concealed carry. I see nothing about open carry. It might possibly be legal to open carry an auto or assisted knife under Oregon state law.

Under the "centrifugal force" provision, it would seem to be illegal to conceal most manual Benchmades and Spydercos.

In Florida, I almost always open carry because state law allows open carry of any blade other than a ballistic knife. I have never seen a ballistic knife outside of a James Bond movie. They seem highly impractical.

Assisted Opening

In the case of State v Markwell, 383 P3d. 285 (2016) the Oregon Court of Appeals affirmed convictions for a knife with a blade that “projects or swings into position by force of a spring or by centrifugal force” where the knife in question would be referred to as an “assisted opener”:

Zelinka [arresting officer] testified that, based on his experience, both personally and professionally, a knife that has nubs opens either by the force of a spring or by centrifugal force. While testifying, Zelinka demonstrated how the knife could be opened using the bottom nub. He also explained that, when he used his finger to put pressure on the nub, the knife blade moved into the open position ‘with very little effort.’ According to Zelinka, the knife ‘flung open.’ To open the knife using the bottom nub, a person pulls the nub backward. When the nub is pulled backward, the blade moves into position rapidly, at a speed that exceeds the speed at which the nub is being moved. The nub is not like a button that is pushed to release a spring lock and, thereby, enable a spring to expand and push out a blade.
The defendant in the Markwell case, a convicted felon, was charged and convicted under 166.240, the general concealed weapon statute, and 166.370, Possession of weapons by felons.

Both statutes contain the same “blade that projects or swings into position by force of a spring or by centrifugal force” wording.

On the more budget end of the spectrum, Civivi Praxis for me.
I just don't think I would keep putting the Praxis in my pocket at 3 inches long. I like it overall, but with my keys phone etc I want a small little knife.

I did see this little guy and it looks like it might work. I like the easy action without the spring assist. About 2 inches, Not sure how the steel compares to D2. But I'm sure it will cut string, feed bags, open boxes, etc.

I'll keep looking but its a basic looking option.

The Kizer Lieb is a relatively inexpensive small flipper that's really nice with ceramic bearings, deep carry clip. The Civivi Mini-Praxis flipper is slightly bigger but great quality and a killer price at $30. The Civivi Elementum is a great knive so I expect the mini version is just as nice. Really small but I guess that's what you're looking for. Both are Chinese knives but great bang for the buck. But most of the inexpensive knives regardless of brand aren't going to be made in the US.

Update: upon further research spring assisted is illegal in Oregon also so I need a plain flipper.

Noob member long time lurker here. Thanks for the add. I could use a little help after watching a dozen videos and searching websites. What recommendations do you guys have for me?

I really like my 1.9" Boker Sub Kalashnikov a lot for around the farm - cutting feed/ supply bags open, hay bale strings, ropes, boxes, anything really. I counted using it 21 times on an average day. Many times I use it with my hand already holding something before I cut it e.g. setting a bag down, holding it upright, pulling out the knife and cutting it open using only the other hand. Having automatic is great but illegal in OR off my property, so I'm trying to find a small, utility grade knife/cheap knife.

I'm looking for something kind of specific basically the boker but spring assisted.
About 2" or less blade
Spring assist
Prefer lighter handle material aluminum or synthetic
pocket clip not necessary in public, but prefer deep pocket if its an option

So far I found:
Kershaw Ember or spoke doesnt look as nice to me, CRKT squid,

Thanks guys

You may want to check the statutes again, from what I'm seeing, it's illegal to concealed carry a switchblade or assisted knife, but you can openly carry them.

As to the actual question, the Mini Praxis is a good choice. A slightly more expensive option would be the Ferrum Forge Mini Archbishop (which is also made by WE/Civivi).

Have you considered the Lieb from Kizer? 2.3 in blade, flipper, N690 steel, small for its blade size, and deep carry pocket clip. It's absolutely one of my favorite little budget knives. They were on sale around Christmas for around $25 but BladeHQ has them for $40 right now. It's not assisted, but the thing really flies out.

Sounds good I'll look at it asap

Find a framelock flipper in your price range that has a comfortable handle that fits your hand, grind the blade down to size.
Search for brands like Ruike, Ganzo, Land, etc.

You know the Kizer flip shank looks cool, and I bet the curved tip comes in handy for small stuff. but discontinued.

Thank you. I got the kizer lieb all black azo version. I do wish it had D2, but the N690 doesn't sounds like cheap Stainless so hopefully it will keep an edge well enough on the farm.

I saved a few to my wishlist for the future - civivi momentum & odium, CRKT burnley squid, steel will Kobold, kizer flip shank & sheepdog, Kubey Campe D2, but I will keep looking.

I usually used the Gerber keychain zip blade on my keys with the lanyard removed, until I got the Boker mini Kalashnikov. So anything is better than the zip blade if I actually carry it all the time.

N690 is much better steal than D2 :)

Glad I was able to help!

minimag03 minimag03 is right. The N690 here should get similar or even better edge retention than a lot of the D2 coming out of China. (Remember that the true edge retention of a given steel is rarely apparent until you get a few fresh edges on it.) N690 is also significantly more stainless than D2.

People often compare N690 to VG-10. Both contain cobalt and are similar enough in properties. VG-10 should be a tiny bit tougher but a tiny bit less stainless.

Have you checked the ZT0022 or the Fox Dragorac?
I like the look of the Bestech Goblin
The Kansept mini Korvid is fun IMO

ZT 0022 is worth a look. Manual flipper, 1.9" 20CV blade, carbon fiber and titanium scales, removable pocket clip, fits comfortably in 5th pocket with or without clip.
