I dont know what smaller knife compliments the junglas the best. What do you guys think?? Izula? Izula II? Hest? 3? 3mil? I have been back and forth on this one. -Tyler

HEST would be a good choise as would an ESEE 3 You could mount it piggyback style on the Junglas sheath or carry it seperatly. You could use the smaller blade for cutting tasks and the Junglas for heavier cutting and chopping.

I don't own a Junglas (though I do desire one) so I speak from my own research, but that only leaves me with numbers and second hand information gathered up. I cannot speak beyond hypothesis.

I would discount the 3 personally. I'm sure it's a great knife, but the HEST offers similar blade length with a couple of extra features.

I've never held an Izula II, but I do have a regular Izy. I do feel safe though saying they are both GREAT small knives. I can't over-recommend any Izula.

Personally, I think a 4 would be a great choice. It might be overkill, but what I am going for personally is a Junglas, 4, and Izy.

All would be a great choice. I think in that size range, paired with a Junglas, it might just come down to more your own personal preference... one knife is not necessarily better suited than another in that instance except when it comes to what you prefer and what you are using it for...

Are you using it for general bushcrafting? All can handle the detail work that a small bushcrafting knife should be able to do...

If it would me, I'd probably do an ESEE-3... I already have an Izula and a Junglas, and while they pair well together, I usually take something that has a little more handle on it to handle my outdoor tasks...

You can take the Izula as well and only add 2 ounces to your loadout, so maybe just piggy back the Izzy on the Junglas sheath and take all three!

I sometimes take a bushcrafting knife, a chopper, AND an axe... Not that I need all three, I just pack light generally so I can, and I enjoy to.

i keep coming back to the izzy II. I like the two extremes in blade length. is there a big difference in the handles of the 3 and the izula II?

I think if you were to drop the 4 out of this trio you probably wouldn't miss it. But YMMV.

As far as the best small knife. I have an Izula and would recomend it if it had full length scales so I'd recomend the Izula 2 instead. The 3 would be a pretty good one too. I personally hate the HEST so wouldn't go near that one.

i have had every size and shape of the esee lineup except lite machete and ah1.

i only have the esee5, hest and junglas now. and ontarion rat 1(until i get a hest folder).

i kept the ones that fit me and my needs. i would like to own all of them but ive thinned the heard on guns and blades to what will be used. i do want to try an izula 2 because i traded the izula1 since it was too small for my hand.

over all the hest gets my vote for a junglas piggy back!

the hest would have kydex to match the junglas also. but im really not in hostile environments, just woods and the like, but you never know. i need to just handle them all

John,

The HEST is a great knife. My "hostile environment" is Pottstown, PA. It includes also public hiking trails, the Appalachians, the woods in back of and around Dad's place when I visit. Don't let the name make you think you have to be surrounded by AK/Machete wielding rebels, or in the middle of a jungle, desert, etc. for it to do what it needs to do. It's a knife with a prybar (if you've never been tempted to use a knife to pry, I do have to wonder just how much you have your knife on you and need to use it. It has a bottle opener (I only need those when I find a place that sells the old glass coke bottles. The wire breaker, you never know and it doesn't take up any extra space. Its a fixed blade multi-tool.

God bless,

If I had to pair them up, I'd go for a Junglas and Izula II with scales. It does depend on how you want to carry the smaller knife though. For neck carry I'd stick with the original Izula but that's just me, I'm sure the II would do just fine also.

You'll likely wind up wanting small, medium and large.

Izula or small folder, something like a 4 or 5 and then the monster. Each have pretty unique roles they fill.

small and large, or one medium is usually what i carry. I have the 6. now i have the junglas for large and need a small. I think izula II... thickness between the 3 and hest, matching canvas micarta, largest and smallest blades from esee (minus lite machete). like the thin 3 though. if i have my junglas then the smaller knife does not need to be as thick. the question is which to get first.

I keep an Izula with my Junglas ,debating on switching to the Izula II

Do it.

I just got the Izula II in today from Roger and I'm lovin' it. I am a big fan of the Izula and the II just makes it that much better.

As a matter of fact, I got it to mate with my Junglas. :)

If u r always gona be pairing the Junglas together with a smaller knife i suggest the RC3 or an IZULA. Stay away from the RC4. No need for the 4 since u wont have to baton at all with it. The 3 or IZULA is what u want

I'd have to say 3 with a Junglas. If no Junglas with me, then it's usually a 4 or 6

A small companion knife for a Junglas? An ESEE6! :-)

J/K - I think a HEST is a great compliment to the Junglas.
