What small knife compliments the junglas best??

Personally, I would either purchase a 3 or 4 (if you like a heavier knife better) or a samller one like the Izulas. Those Izulas can pretty fast become part of your EDC. But whichever knife you choose, they're all excellent. ;)

for me my go-to hiking setup is a junglas with a 4. the 3's handle is just too thin for my hand that it's uncomfortable to use for an extended period of time whereas the 4 feel just right.

also, as winter approaches here i want to make sure my backup knife can still be used to baton through wood (the 4's larger size is inherently better than the 3 in wood processing) in case i lose the junglas.

JV3,

Nice pics man. What are those you've got on the grips there? Leather? Has Hogue gotten into ESEE?

God bless,
Adam

thanks. those are bike rubber inner tubes. i was experimenting on how to add additional grippiness and less shock on my hands. i took it off since gloves still work better than rubber grips and bare hands.

My 4 and Izula will join the Junglas on my next weekender. 4 on the belt, Junglas on the back, and izula on the shoulder strap

i think i might agree with you

Honestly, ESEE3mil will do 90% of ANYTHING you encounter - Junglas will take care of the rest.

There is something to be said for the fact that the 3mil has the thinnest blade out of ALL the ESEEs - makes it a fantastic slicer, excellent for food prep and detail work. It's just a pleasure to use.

You can also EDC it as easily as the Izula should you wish - it almost disappears in the back pocket and it's weight makes it barely noticible.

this right here. +10!

not to take away from the fact that the 3 is a great slicer, nice overall length, etc... but if it's not comfortable to use it's not going to get much use.

My vote is still for the Izy... even if the OP seems to have chosen wrong (J/K, I hope you'll love your new blade and that it serves you well.) But don't forget if you get some gumption go buy yourself a slab of Micarta or G10, throw on a respirator and get creative with your own slabs.

God bless,
Adam

My vote goes to the 4 and an Izula, awesome combo those two. Combined with a 10 incher their aint much you cant handle.

John,

While I don't have my trifecta yet (the 2nd piece, the 4 I hope to have soon) I can say part of it is layering, having backups. Second, even if the 4 can do all the small work just find I can save it for more appropriate tasks. The rest I cannot speak on without getting some serious firsthand xp.

God bless,
Adam

JV3,

Nice pics bro !!

that rock just seems so out of place.. like it was planted there??

although I don't have a junglas I pair up a machete with the 4 and a folding saw at the moment..

I'm really interested in the 3mil I'd like to see how it feels in hand.. This would make perfect camp sense, otherwise to be honest I'd throw a mora or similar into the mix..

Pending the outing I'm wearing an Izula on the neck with small PSK (incase for some unknown you loose your pack with everything!!) a 14" machete, my esee 4 and a saw.. now for me I'll throw another knife in the mix for prep, maybe a mora, CS roachbelly, or a delica..
