What sold you on your first becker?

Wanna hear what it was that made you say "this is the one!"
For me it had to be the handle shape and design...when i grabbed my first bk7 it grabbed back felt like we where holding hands.

I was looking for a small fixed blade for edc and dayhikes. Stumbled across the ESEE izula. Kinda liked the handles from what I had seen on youtube and the like. Then I stumbled upon the BK11, of which I kinda liked the bladeshape a lot more than the izula's. Out came the BK14 and I was pretty much sold when I first saw it. It encompassed everything I was looking for at that time. I've never looked back. Still don't own an ESEE (though I do see myself getting one in the future, maybe an izula and a 3), but I do have a BK11 (and 24, 15, 16, 9, 5). That's my story

I think it was the infamous frase "you can't not have a 9"
Was looking for big knife, with a good bang for the bucks...
Entered this forum and now I am joining knifeaholics anonymous as soon as I can find them....
They are heard of but never seen...

Actually it was this sub-forum
I came over to check it out after hearing good things about beckers though the general knife forum.
And after seeing the Bk2 thread where it cut through a lawnmowers deck
I knew I had to have one, after that they just keep multiplying.
Nine maybe/is the King but the bk2 must be the prince.

For me it was the price. I was looking for a small quality fixed blade, but didn't want to spend a fortune. I ordered a 14 online never having held a Becker before. Once I got it, I decided I wanted a larger (BK2), and larger (BK9) knife. Those decisions were made with the help of this forum. My newest Becker (BK24) was thanks to the "Move your Butt" threads in particular.

Was needing a mid-sized, heavy duty knife for camping and hunting. Found the ESEE line first, then found Becker on this forum and found the price much easier to digest! After deciding on the BK2 there was no looking back!

I am also going to blame the Bk2 that can cut up everything thread for influencing my decision for buying a BK2. I was looking for a "one knife solution" for outdoors use. It needed to be under 6 inches of blade length and strong enough to handle any task I throw at it. Through a google search it lead me to BF, and the rest is history.

My first was a Camillus-era Becker Necker. It just looked so darn handy I had to have one... luckily for me I got it just before Camillus went belly-up. I was/am really pleased with the geometry and utility of it. I was sure happy to see when Becker and Ka-Bar teamed up after that.

Slowly but surely I got to know more about the other designs and the man behind them (that's largely thanks to fooling around with cats like Moosez45, 1066vik and Guyon on other subforums on BF, as well as the preponderence of good reviews from all over the place). So I took interest and got my mitts on a couple more.

Then I was invited to a Gathering as part of a bushcraft maker's challenge, eventually meet all these lunatics and Ethan himself several times, and I've never looked back. The knives offer a fantastic level of bang-for-the-buck and perhaps more importantly, this a fine community of people. I consider Ethan a mentor and role model.

When I bought my first Becker, the earlier model BK9, I was shopping for a good, durable, affordable bowie knife. I looked around a lot, but didn't really like the other offerings as they were too big, or just struck me as wrong. Then I found the Ontario SP10 and I really liked it. But then I read about its stick tang design, and that desire was tempered. Then I found the BK9. And once I got past what I thought was an utterly ridiculous design, I realized how much I liked the whole package.

What basically sold me on my first Becker was the convenience. And then when I got it, I needed no further selling.

First one i got was the 24 but in all honestly though,i love it but what really made my descent into Becker mania is the BK9. Wish i would have have bought it earlier. Just got a BK9 and it's incrediable. The weight and size are much more managable then i thought it was going to be. I actully thought the seller ripped me off and sent me an empty box just to rub it in my face because the 9 is so much lighter than i expected(there was an 11 in there too!:)) Slicer, light weight, solid, well balanced, can do it all knife, CHEAP!. Truly mean it when i say one of the sharpest knives i've ever got out of the box.Taking to woods tomarrow along with the 2 to take down some tree's. Can't wait. I will be getting a 5 and 7 also and another 9 down the line and maybe 10 and for sure a.....:)

Watched lots of reviews on the BK2 online but what really sold me was getting one in hand at a gun show. The moment I held it, it was over. It just felt like an extension of my arm.

Ulf, you know we want pics....
Or actually some chopping videos would be even better...

I think this place sold me on Becker knives more than anything else. I found Bladeforum and hung around in the general and Kershaw forums before I found Beckerville. My first Becker was a BK7 that had been reground into a 10. Then I bought one of the limited edition 10's. I found out that knife handles don't have to feel like a brick of a fishing rod. They can actually be really comfortable. Who knew?
Anyway, from there the addiction took over and I've been happily surrounding myself with 1095 cro-van ever since.

Was in the market for a quality knife to take the place of my much used, and much loved, (but very old and in need of retirement), USMC fighter.
Did about a million searches on the webz and 'tube, and had it narrowed down to ESEE and Becker.
Dad has a pretty extensive collection so I asked him if he owned either one?
He produced his BK-91.
Once I held that beast in my hand I forgot all about that "other" knife company and knew it was Becker or nothing.

Like I said, I was looking for something in the 7" range, so I bought a 7, (Chris from PM101 had a little to do with that too).
Once I got the 7, I knew I HAD to have a 9. Once I got the 9, I knew I HAD to have an 11.

Then, through an act of immense generosity, I lucked out and won a 14 in a GAW funded by G-Shark, (thanks again BTW!!).

Was convinced that my next Becker would be a 16, but then the re-issue of the BR-Kukri was announced.
Now, I am saving every penny I can and biding my time until it is released...
I have vowed that it will be my next knife purchase.
I sent padre a link to the BR-Kukri thread and he is now salivating at the thought as well, (dad has a thing for Kuks).

Beyond that, I have pretty much decided that I won't buy another fixed blade that isn't a Becker.
Ethan's presence on this forum, his extreme kindness and generosity, and all of the good folks here have made that decision a no-brainer.

God bless Ethan Becker, and God love the Beckerheads. Long may they live!

I wanted a big tough mamma jamma for the northern woods and any possibilities of bittey scratchy encounters. It turned out that besides hacking trees down for shelter practice, all I ever did with the Brute was lob the legs off of game birds. I had mixed emotions for this one. I loved the big ''Brutal'' manliness of the knife. But it also felt like a boat anchor on a belt, with a full canteen. It went to a good home.

I had turned my back on knives, but they still persisted in ambushing me when least expected. The tool truck had them, the surplus store had them, the big box home center had them, the auto parts store had them, DAMMIT!!

ENOUGH!!!

Ok, I'll admit, I always liked the Kabar USMC. I figured just that one would do no harm. So I bought one, then the side bar feed shows these "Beckers" ?? :stung: Never heard of them...
