What sold you on your first becker?

Was looking for a strong, compact fixed blade for camping, hunting, etc. Had my old Ka-Bar 1245 tanto I bought while in the Army, but I didn't want to risk breaking it. I almost pulled the trigger on a Condor Bushlore before I stumbled into this subforum. Saw the Bk10 and never looked back!

I was on ship heading to Iraq, before it was announced we were going to war, when a buddy from another platoon came down to get me. Said his squad leader had a big blade that he wanted to unload before we landed in Kuwait. He knew I was a knife guy and figured I'd be interested. I'd never seen a blade like it at the time. Crooked, odd looking handle, completely blackened, of course it was a BK4. It was just too damned odd looking to let go. I bought it for about $80, payed after we got out of Iraq. I still miss that one, but it definitely started a sickness and led me eventually to here.

Reviews, reviews, reviews. Video and otherwise. Ironically, it was some of the more negative reviews that helped sell the BK2 for me. So what if the knife weighs a pound, ya bunch of sissies! It's STILL JUST a pound! I had actually dropped the idea of purchasing a Becker for a while; I had just got an all black Kraton-handled Kabar and the SOG Seal Pup Elite, figured that was enough for now. (Yeah, right.) Well, then the Becker line started creeping into mind again, and I received my first Becker BK2 yesterday. I was so impressed with it, that I ordered the 9 yesterday as well. Because, you know..

For me it was tons of searching and researching for my perfect bushcraft knife. I had set a budget of $400 (that I was going to have to save up) and I was looking at Busse and Bark River. I saw these Beckers and initially dismissed them. But the more I learned and read and saw - the Beckers were actually surperior tools compared to their higher priced brothers. I continued to read and study everything I could get my hands on for a while longer and finally made my decision.

Mine is a BK-9

:)

I was always a tomahawk, kukri and even Japanese sword enthusiast. It wasn't long ago when I started getting a bug about a large chopper, survival type knife. I spent weeks studying these blades and kept coming back to the Junglas and the BK 9. Something about the look of the 9's blade shape and the ergonomics of the handle just called to me. When the 9 arrived.......it just felt like home in my hand. I could tell then and there that this would not be my last Becker. I now have the 9, 2, 14 with a 3 on the way and will be one of the first in line for the new Becker kuk!

I either missed or forgot that. Sweat/corrosion resistance?

Back around the beginning of June I asked about the stainlessness of the 24 vs 13. I "settled" on the 24. I still haven't posted any pics yet but I will once I get back to Japan.

Ethan Becker. I had the honor to meet him at an A.G. Russell KNIFE Event in North West Arkansas. I bought a BK 7 at that event and have added a 2, 15 a couple 11’s and a couple 14’s along with several Mora’s. Thank you Mr. Becker!

I probably should not read threads like this...... I tend to be modesty challenged anyway...... I am sitting in a bar in Reno and I am feeling my head swell to alarming proportions....... I have hopes that the swelling will go down by morning so I can fit my head through the door of the truck !!!!!!!!....... Truly I am NOT bitching and I really do not want this to stop but I am damned close to tearing up......... I have been so damned lucky !!!!........ My knives have blessed me with the gatherings of friends both in person and here in cyberwhatsit........ This trip has found me being able to spend time with the Tradewaters and Vic and Tara, and Steve Johnson Of JAB...... On the way home I will get to see Psyop, The Colonel, and CBear and maybe another painful shot at the Trades( the pain is the splitting of gut muscles) ....... Sooooo....Thank you all for enriching my life in so many ways........

Mr. Becker, If ever you're in the Dayton, Ohio area..it would be an honor to meet you. You, sir, are a rock star.

I don't get to Dayton much anymore....... I used to, quite a bit...........Spent the first 58 years of my existence in Cincinnati ......went to a bunch of gun shows there and a few Martial arts seminars...... If I get close in future, it would be fun to grab a cuppa or a brew.......

I found a good deal on a BK11.
Shortly after I found the BK&T subforum here.
Bought more Beckers, became a Beckerhead, met many cool folks including Mr. Becker at the BW gatherings.
I feel priveledged to have met so many high class individuals in my short time here.
This place and everything that goes with it is just too cool to put into words.

I wanted to retire my Kabar USMC that I'd had since 1988. I did some looking and the 7 was to me a more modern, yet similar knife. I got one of the Cammilus ones right before they shut down and I really like it. The "iron skilletness" of the knife is one of the things I love about it the most. Use it, clean it a bit, a little oil on it and you'll be able to pass it down to the next generation. I also have a 16, which is simply awesome. What more does one need ? The answer ? Another Becker ! 15 is next

Wanted a real camp knife that would hold up, chose the BK2 because of the handle. Later, in this sub, and through some gatherings I have met some awesome folks.

I was looking for a good fixed blade for camp duty. If I remember correctly, it was this forum that pushed me toward a BK2. I have spent a lot more money on a knife, but never had a better one. I have some pretty folders, but my fixed blades are all business. I have seen no need to look any farther than than the Becker line for quality knives that exceed my expectations every time. I will be at about 10,000 ft on Friday night and my Becker family will be with me.

I was wanting to upgrade my cheapy fixed blade I carried while camping to something better. I walked into a gun-shop that had just opened it's doors and didn't have it's FFL yet - but they had an odd lot of knives they had bought off another shop that was closing it's doors. One of those was a BK17. I wasn't really a knife guy, but when I held it, I wanted it, and ended up getting it.

Didn't have a clue that it was going to lead to a growing family of blades and this subforum - but it did, and I'm glad.

The designs of these blades are exactly what I was looking for until I saw this sub-forum. Lots of good reviews, lots of good people.......... lots of enablers too!:D

yea they should do like a drug dealer...hey man what you need?...the first one is free! go ahead it wont hurt you, just do it. You will feel great. THEN BAM your hooked!!!!!!
