What sort of Blems come on Kershawguy's Blurs?

Hey Forum-ers,
I'm just about to buy a kershaw blur blem (just the basic one in 14c28n) and wanted to know what kind of of "blems" they come with? I've read only good things about kershawguy, but just wanted to know what sort of knife I was buying. Also, is there any way I can request a knife with a not-so-visible blemish? (such as a product tagging error)
Thanks,
Greg.

I just ordered a ZT 0550 blem. Dave states that his blems are "cosmetic only". Not sure about a special request, though...

I will say this. I just ordered two blems from Dave and I can't see what the problems with the knives are. I can about guarantee you won't be able to either (Other the the xxxx on the blade). Dave only sells the best. Have no doubt shopping with him!

The blem will be so minor it will take some studying to find. If he had a blem that stood out a bit more Dave would be sure to let you know, he stands behind his stuff and has earned his excellent reputation. I have been extremely happy with all of the blemish I have bought from him in the past.

Most of the blems aren't that noticeable anyway. But who cares? It's going to get wear when you use it.

Most of the blems I've gotten, I can't tell what the problem is. No functional or cosmetic issues that I can discern. I've only gotten one with obvious cosmetic flaws (CB Leek, where the D2 part near the tip is a little discolored), but functionally, it is perfect. The only two blems I've gotten with functional issues are an OD-1 where flipper is a bit messed up, requiring a very substantial amount of force to overcome the detent, and a CB JYD, where the stop-pin cutout on the inside of the blade is messed up, so the last 30 degrees or so of trying to open the blade is fairly stiff (the stop pin presses against the wall of the cutout).

I've never heard anything bad about blems from anyone, and most of the time people receive blems which they say they cannot find the cosmetic issue on them. With that being said, I just received a 1670CF154 blem last week but had to exchange it for a new In box. The knife functioned perfectly but this particular blem was very noticeable. Out of its bag, the edges where the CFinlays sits had what seemed like excess glue on it ( alot and very noticeable, some on the spine also). I thought, oh that is the blem no worries a little bit of effort and I can get it all off which I was able to get most off in one try. But then I compared it to my other one which was not a blem and noticed that the inlays on the blem protruded out more than the nib, I was like "no prob"...until I tried to place the clip tip up and learned that the protruding inlay wont allow me to properly fit the clip because it got in the way which was the deal breaker for me (modding or flexing the clip just to fit it is too much effort to save $20 on a blem and is slightly beyond cosmetic in my judgement)I fondled it some more along with the nib one and realized that one inlay on the design side and the entire inlay on the clip side was not securely fit compared to the nib, tapping it with my fingernail you can tell that it is hollow compared to the other which is solid. Would have been happy with a blem as a user, but in this case, I felt that $20 more and I get a new one with warranty. Dave took care of me no questions asked, he effin rocks and look forward to dealing with him in the future. With that being said, blems are good to go and I'd still get one in the future for either a user or if that is all thats available. You must take some risk in getting a warranty voided product, and my experience is practically the only I guess you can call negative (if even that) one on a blem.

I now have three non blems of this knife... I got another on the way. I dont own any knives with the exact config in triplicate which says alot about the knife.

A very tiny cosmetic flaw is the most I have ever seen on a Kershaw blem, and often you can't find the flaw (if there is one).

Maybe none?
I ordered a blur blem in S30V from him and it came with no 'xxxx' on the blade and I couldn't find any sort of blemish.

I have seen some of Dave's blems with no xxxx on the blade. In some instances, no markings whatsoever.

When the Ti Volts came out, Dave had a blem or two. I got one so I could keep the non-blem minty fresh. Other than the xxxx on the blade, side by side I couldn't tell the two apart.

I ordered a blem blur from him in the standard steel and a tanto/half serrated blade about a week ago. The only things that made it look like a blem was the fact that the blade and had about three spots the size of a pin head where the coating was gone. Also, the DLC on the thumb studs was slightly warn.

I do have a blem'd blem. ;) Marked "XXXXX" instead of "XXXX". Functionally and cosmetically flawless as far as I can tell (other than the X's). I'll post a pic later tonight after I get home (if I remember).

I've gotten 4 blems and 3 new knives from Kershawguy in the past. All of the blems were cosmetic. I have a Leek that has "XXXX" on the blade, and I could not find the blem. And I also have a 1730TBLK (Groove) that was a blem, but there are no Xs on the blade and it seems like it isn't actually a blem.

I couldn't get it to focus, but that little brownish/steel colored spot is the blem.

The "T" in the model number is the blem.

My fixed blade had a small white mark on the scale- wiped off with water and a paper towel.

Out of the 7 or so blems I've bought from Dave over the years I've only been able to find the blem on one of them, it was a tiny mark on the handle, which now blends right in with the rest of the handle after carrying it a while.

My CF blur blem has a small burr on one of the thumbstuds. Its the left thumbstud so not a huge concern, but if I can work up the courage I may take a grinder to it.

Here is a photo of the burr. The little chips on the handle were acquired well after it was in my hands.

Personally, I wouldn't put that on a grinder. A wood block and some 120 - 200 grit should remove that in a heartbeat.

Yeah I forgot went straight to grinder in the post but in reality I would use that more as a last resort. Figured I would try some less invasive methods first.
