What Spyderco collaborations would you like to see?

So many knifemakers, so little time.

I'd love to see a high-quality little gents' knife to compete with William Henry. A Stan Fujisaka collaboration would be awesome.

The knifemaker I'd really love to see do a collaboration is Jeff Harkins. His Japanese/fusion style, incredibly elegant and clean, is just amazing. You can see some of his work here: http://www.knifeart.com/jefferyharkins.html but he has a variety of designs that are just gorgeous. I may make it my personal mission to get a major production company to do a collaboration with this guy!

BTW, I have a pretty good custom knife collection, with a wide variety of knives and styles. My Harkins folder is the first custom knife I ever bought (cost me a whopping $225!) -- and to this day, continues to be the one that gets the most attention from other collectors when they look at my collection.

I would love to see some of Pat Crawfords designs made by Spyderco.

Umm, - Elishewitz perhaps and
Of course the wildest dream: Spyderco Balisong. WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
With titanium handles and Endura/Delica type of blade. With hole of course, although it might not be practicle. And some tacticle folder a la Emerson maybe.

Last time I answered a question along those lines in this forum it became a flame war. And since things have only gone down hill since we lost JKM, I imagine the same will happen. Too bad, this used to be a place where people could exchange ideas and opinions openly.

A really great wish list here.

Al Polkowski would be awesome for a fixed blade tactical. I would also love to see something done with Koji Hara.

for beauty and artwork, Koji Hara or Eiffler.
for work and use : Reeves...not neccesairily a framelock, but it would be nice.
For a bestseller, a Darrel Ralph apogee style knife.

Hi, Interresting thread. I thought to bring some more info to the table.

St James. I don't remember the previous "flame war" on this forum. I Must be having a "senior moment". Why don't you say your piece as you think it. I have trust that this group can handle opinions well.

I thought to mention that Warren Thomas is one of the custom makers that chose to honor our patent and pay the fee. The model shown is beautiful. BTW, it make be all ti, but ti is a metal. You get caught trying to take that on an airplane and it will be assumed that you are a terrorist, tough to explain. Be sure before you "try".

I also thought to mention that "Whiskers" Allen was the first custom maker to honor that request.

re: Jody. I had spoken with Lester & Eric more than once about a Jody/Benchmade/Spyderco bali. It just never went anywhere.

re: Bob Lum Tanto FB. Should be out this year.

re: Bob Lum FRN Tanto: depends on sales of the new G10 version.

re: Polkoski/Kasper. I have one that Pat & Wes Crawford made for me. Very nice, however the design is contracted to another manufacturer.

re: Pat Crawford. The one I wanted was the "Leopard", but he'd already signed with Benchmade at the time. We've looked a few possibilities, but nothing that the public said "build it and we will buy". Perhaps in the future.

re: Greg Lightfoot. He is alrady working with two makers. Too many similar designs in the market place doesn't work very well.

re: FRN Lum Chinese. Depends on sales.

re: Gaje, Worden, Jafri. Kelly is already working with another company on this design. Although Pat/Wes Crawford are making one for me with a hole. I'm not familiar with Gaje, or Jafri knife designs?

re: Fred Perin & Allen Elishewitz. Fred's FB is in the works. This year. Allen is an excellent designer, but Allen has an exclusive with Benchmade.

re: Janich. A possibility as he is currently teaching MBC classes at Spyderco Factory Outlet. Carson & Tighe are already working with other manufacturers (as I understand).

re: Steve Ryan. My understanding he has something in the works with another manufacturer at this time.

re: Chris Reeve. An ongoing battle with Chris and I to do this. no success at this time.

re: Koji Hara. Koji is making his own production according to the ad I saw.

re: Anso. Not familiar with his designs.

re: Laci Szabo. I have a proto UUK that we're showing at shows for public/dealer reaction.

re: Jeff Harkins. I spoke with Jeff at the PKA show in Denver several yers ago. Nice designs, many varieties. He didn't seem too interested at the time?

re: Darrel Ralph. We've chatted. He is a brilliant designer. The one that caught my attention was the EDC, but Darrel said he'd already sold that desiogn to another manufacturer. I asked him to make one for me with a hole for my own collection.

I'll get back with more info L8r.

I'd like to see a Spyderco / Dozier Trapper and a redesigned Spyderco / Wegner (VG-10, etc, etc from the previous petition posts.)

Instead of taking an exsisting model, I like to see Darrel Ralph work up a completely new design just for Spyderco.

I tried to make a Dozier folder collaboration some time ago. I really think his designs are well thought out and mature in their refinement.

Bob works through an agent and the agent and I couldn't come to terms. Maybe some day in the future?

Fantastic! A Lum Tanto FB!! This year!!! My eyes flicker with exitement. It´s almost too good to be true. Sal, when can we expect to see a proto? SHOT-show? Is it close to the original? Specs? Steel? Handle? Tell us moooore. Pleeeaaase....

Fred Perrin and Allen Elishewitz.

Spyderco Hunting fixed blade of 9"
Spyderco Balisong
Spyderco Auto Military
Spyderco Damascus steel blade
Spyderco Multitool (that is good)
Spyderco with Framelock Ti scales and CPM3V blade.
Spyderco Rambo knife with a decent steel like M2.

I could go on and on...

Damascus... That was a nice input. Now that there is Damasteel, that might bee a good idea.

How about a new maker from the forums, we could all draw up designs, and the one every body likes the most, or Sal likes the most, could get made into a prototype, if it turned out well, it could be a special bladeforums knife. This would probably be impossible, too many people who don't know enough about knife design would come up with unworkable knives, but maybe there would be one or two that could be feasible, and every body could have input to improve on the designs. I know I have seen people in the past post pictures of their own spyderco style knife designs on this forum. Its really late, and I am tired, the more i think about this the more it seems like a stupid idea, oh well, I tried.
