For me, it is Carbon steel or Case Chrome Vanadium.
Case CV steel is the same steel Cold steel used to call Carbon V. Camillus ( who made those knives before they closed up) , and some other makers have another name for it. They call it 0170-6. It's a good steel
Plain carbon steels like 1085, and 1095 are excellent steels also. I grew up using them and still like them, having both fixed blades and folders in all different brands of carbon steels. There's certainly nothing wrong with preferring them. What I can't stand is the stainless that Case uses. There is so much better stainless steels available than the ( my opinion only) junk they use. Try a Spyderco delica in VG 10 and you will get an idea of what I'm talking about.
Don't judge stainless steels by what case, and gerber use. Joe
