What steel is in my knife?

I want to purchase another Buck Mayo Cutback. How would I be able to tell if the knife has the older 440C blade or the newer 420HC blade?
 
I would guess the year date code.

Have they changed steels in the cutback?

A new one should say what steel it has.
 
Sorry,,,, should have said that the clampack info or box info should say what steel. Need more coffee...

Where on box would it say??? None of my production Buck boxes have blade steel info on them... :confused:
 
Maybe the boxes don't say. Was looking at a 110 clampack. Too bad I trashed the clampack info for my cutback. I should know better. :mad:
 
Yeah, the clams usually have the steel on 'em. I recall seeing that on my Mantis packaging.
Never seen it on a box though.
