what steel is it when it just says stainless?
one of my sharpening clients has a boker auto ,he bought in germany,
10 +,-, yrs. ago. single ttree on the left of boker, solingen, germany,
stainless at the base, stamped in deep. centered on the blade it says speed lock.
i've read some where that if it's a good steel they don't make you guess.
thanks for the help.
i don't have access to photos. i'm not sharpening it 'cause it's his letter opener. if i did i'd have some idea how hard the steel is.

That would be made of 440C.

As far as if it's good, they don't make you guess, I would not say
that is always true, alot of blades do not have the blade steel printed on them.
My Buck doesn't, and it is good steel.
Thanks, TJT

thanks for the help/info! perhaps this was produced before the customer was so well informed. in the joe talamadge "steel faq" i got the impression
that w/out the type of steel mentioned, the maker was not too proud of the material. "if a manufacturer had used the more expensive 440C, he'd want to advertise that." we all know you can pound a buck blade through a carriage bolt, so the steel is good. there are no absolutes, thanks for the kind reminder and reply.
