What steel to try next,(not what’s best).

BTW, do you own a multi-tool. If you don't, you should consider one.
I do have a gerber multitool and a leather man micra. Also have one SAK. One of those three is with me everyday.
The bugout is on the top of my list.
I was aware of the dozier, but had assumed it was a fixed blade, and never looked into it before. I like it.
The D’allara I had not heard of before. I have a dragonfly from Seki, and am comfortable with FRN, so I would definitely consider it. It looks like it would be a secondary market purchase, so far I’ve had only positive experiences doing that here.
I appreciate your input. And,on a lighter note, I am married so I’m used to my requests and dollar limits being ignored.

Spyderco recently announced they are offering a Para 3 lightweight in FRN. You might want to consider that also.
As for the Dozier, I have one within arms reach as I type. They make a great back up or loaner knife.

And, the D'Allara, I've been considering one of those for a couple of years. Finally got one earlier this month when I explained to my wife it is discontinued as of this year. We were talking about goals and desires for the year and she said that she would like a new loveseat and I said I wanted a new knife. For once I got what I wanted first.:)

If you like thinner knives because of hand size and you want a flipper, consider a Kershaw Zing. A Zing and my Benchmade 531 get carried more than anything else I own. The Zing started out as US production and later overseas. The overseas production is not very good and they dropped every feature that made the Zing interesting but the ergonomics is spot on for someone with medium sized hands. You can find them for a little over 20 bucks if you look. At that price, it makes a great travel knife.

It should be fun reading about the knives you end up with. BTW, what knives did you pick up since November?

Well, I received a SAK, Kershaw launch1, and a Boker strike as gifts. Then I got a Rat2 and Dragonfly salt off the exchange. And just this week I purchased a Kizer Corto, also off the exchange.
In addition to those I have the Leek that started it all, and a trio of oldish Bucks. A plain 521, and the other two are called Ultra Lites, I think. A long past birthday present. I remember they had a weird nylon sheath that held both of them at the same time.

All of those are well known manufacturers. You should be all right.

Well, it’s been a year. I’m up to “only” 30
knives from the 10 I had when I first asked about this.

As it turns out I haven’t held to any of those original guidelines. Regarding steels, as Katsumoto said in The Last Samurai, “they are all perfect.”
That said, the (m390)link, (14c28n) Ruike p801, and (D2)the Rat2 are the three that find there way into my hand most frequently.
The Kizer and Keen are both so good looking I can bring myself to use them, so I haven’t given s35 a fair shake.

If you haven’t tried out LC200N,the steel Spyderco often uses in their Salt series knives and their Autonomy 1 and Autonomy 2 automatic knives..if I’m not mistaken I believe Spyderco has a knife or 2 In LC200N that is around the $100 mark..I bought the Autonomy 2 a little while back and I have been blown away by it..it’s a major upgrade from the H1 they also use in their Salt series knives..it has much better edge retention than I expected

You can also find the Kershaw Bareknuckle,Kershaw Link and Kershaw Dividend available in both M390 and 20CV all 3 can be found for around $70-$80 which is one hell of a deal for knives in these blade steels..you can get a Benchmade Griptillian and several different Spyderco knives in S30V for around $100..you can get the Kershaw Blur and Kershaw Leek in S30V for around $80..I seen some discontinued Kizer knives in S35VN for around $100..Cold Steel has several knives in S35VN for around $100 as well
