What steel would you like on your CRK?

I would like to see S90V or CTS-204P, from other knives I have those have insane performance. S110V looks good on paper but I have no experience using it. What do you think would be a good steel on a CRK? ...not to say that S30V/S35VN is bad.

CPM M4. Aside from the known performance of that steel, I would like a non-stainless Sebenza, where the patina on the blade could develop along with the weathering of the handles.

I'm a big fan of S90V so would happily take a CRK with that steel. I also wouldn't say no to something like 3V on an Umnumzaan or 25. I wouldn't mind at all seeing some san-mai blades to go along with the damascus that is offered, a high carbon core with stainless flanks always looks good. A nice wee san-mai Mnindi with CF or Micarta inlay would be a spledid knife, IMO. :)

Yes on the S90V. I realized that at this point it is getting to be a little long in the tooth, but it's such a solid performer. Alternatively, I'd love to have more of the long-discontinued BG-42 at 62HRC, though I personally find it harder to get a good edge on than lots of other steels (including S90V) if you let it get dull.

Ditto the M4 steel, perhaps ZDP-189 as well.

I have lots of knives in CPM-M4. It is phenomenal especially when someone who specializes in M4 does the heat treat. I would LOVE a Sebenza in that alloy.

S90V would be nice too, but we might as well be wishing for them to be free also;)

S90v would be great..but I would not be opposed to some of the other steels mentioned here too.

Another vote for s90, it is a great steel! However I am content with the current steel.
However, if there was a change I would NOT want to see zdp189, that would make me actually avoid a new crk knife.

M390 is my favorite steel. Give me that in a Lg 21 Insingo config, and with every cut Angels would sing.

If CRK offered a steel upgrade option, I'd buy it. Any of those mentioned (S90V, etc.) would be superb choices.

Too prone to corrosion to be a good fit for CRK.

I am sure it will never happen, but for the record I dont experience any undo corrosion with CPM M4, not like some very high carbon steels. It borders on stainless, so I would not put it in the "prone to corrosion" category myself, but that might just be my personal experience and use.

However, I would like a CRK that does corrode / rust / patina for what it's worth. I like carbon steel, and having tools that show the passage of time. I really like how the CRK slabs get such a great finish on them, and would like the blade to show it's age in a similar fashion. This for me would be the untimate in truly hard-use / purpose-built / working mans knife.

No complaints with what they currently use or even S30V heat treated similarly to what Spyderco uses. My experience with M4 was great in the usage department and not my favorite in the sharpening department. I had some that was quick to form little rust spots so I didn't care for the constant attention and would really be peeved by rusting on a $400+ knife. I'd basically never be able to carry it in the summer.

I'll stick with S35Vn. Superb steel, easier to sharpen than S30V IMHO, takes a fantastic scarey sharp edge & holds it well, corrosion resistant.
