What steel would you like on your CRK?

I may be getting a little ambitious here, but the S35VN they use ran a little bit harder at maybe 60-61, and I think there wouldn't be much of a reason to get other knives especially of similar price range.

I'm with you on that Mr Krieg. I have "other" knives with S35VN and they act differently.
Failing that, a CRK with CTS-XHP would be cool.

:yawn:Are we dreaming or what?

Although I may have just changed my mind to they are good as they are. I have a spyderco sharp maker I haven't been using much and I decided to try and touch up the edge on my small 21. Not hair popping when I started and after 5-10 fairly light strokes per side on the white stone and BAM! Popping hairs pretty easy now. I now completely understand why Chris both recommends the sharp maker and why he treats his blades to this hardness.

P.S. I am now really excited and my small 21 that I carry 90% of the time anyway is probably going to reach that exclusive 100% spot for a while. Who knew my most carried knife would find a way to get me to carry it more.

Mr Krieg

I am happy with S30V and my experience with S35VN, but one can dream:

Nitrobe-77

RWL-34

Damasteel

14C28N

12C27

All run in high HRC 60+.

While I do appreciate the virtues of the softer S30V/S35VN and love them, I am going to cast another vote for CPM M4. I would love my favorite knife steel in my favorite knife (either Umnumzaan or Sebenza).

That being said, if I put on my "even-remotely-in-the-realm-of-ever-being-possible" hat, I may have to say CPM 3V since CRK has actually used that before. I'd love that on an Umnumzaan and use it fearlessly.

I agree, it might be something one has to take into their own hands though. :p

I can't wait to see it if you are planning on doing what I am thinking :D

As others have said, I'm totally fine with S35VN, I value a little bit of toughness over ridiculous edge holding. If Chris decides to make a change, I think M4 or 3V would be pretty great.

I am indeed. I'll have enough 3V for one blade left over from my run of "loch Monster" folders so I'm thinking an Umnumzaan reblade might be a fun project in the coming months. :D

Yep..I am going to want to see that! :D

That would be a fun and interesting project!

Anyone mentioning non US steels are heretics and should be dealt with. :D

One can dream cant we? An all USA produced knife is still a foreign knife for me :D

Unfortunately there is nothing produced in the USA that is similar to Nitrobe-77 to my knowledge.

I think I will have ordered an Insingo already if it had elmax or m390
M390 is my favorite steel at the moment, but Elmax will also be a very good option
I like elmax more than s35vn... So it will be a nice improvement already.

For the value I think it will be good to have better steel than s35vn on CRK.... IMHO

I'm planning a replacement full-flat grind blade with CPM-M4 for CRK folder as my next project.
Not sure how long it takes.
