What stops you from a potential knife purchase the most?

I buy a lot of knives on eBay. I hate when an elusive model I've been looking for comes up and is in great condition and then I find the blade or handle is etched with a stupid design or text.

More and more I found myself looking a knife, and asking myself what would it do that any of my other knives I already own won't do? As most times the answer was nothing, I stopped buying knives almost completely. Happy with what I've got. I still like to look though.

Lots of tactitarded designs popping out lately. You see some stuff going for upwards of $500-$700 and wonder what was going through that makers mind. Some folks have more money than sense, and seem to be the new trendy hipster man-jewlery.

What stops potential purchases for me most often? Lack of funds.
Yes, that would be the first barrier.

The wife.
Sorry to hear. Luckily, I don't have that problem. I buy what I want and she buys what she wants. We each have our own bank accounts and as long as the bills are paid on time and everything else is tended to properly, not an issue.

Overpricing.
This, value isn't what it used to be and has taken a whole different definition.

My answer is the same as most of those above - money. There are many knives on my "to buy" list, but I'm a graduate student and I rarely have the funds to purchase them.

Aside from that, there are a number of knives that I wan't but can't justify purchasing because they're too similar to knives I already own. For example, I want a BM Contego, but I already have a Rift and a couple other big knives. I want a ZT 0562, but I already own the 0561. There are too many unique knives out there for me to buy multiples that are very similar. Of course, this still comes back to the money issue - if I had the funds I'd say screw it and buy them all.

Bills... no matter how many times I pay them (seems like every month - LOL!) they just keep coming and coming and coming...

Money, it seems the dollar doesn't go as far as it use to now a days when buying knives.

The fact that I need to enjoy the ones that I already have more......I ask myself do I really need to purchase another knife when I already have a similar one?

pretty much this... if theres a knife i want it will likely involve parting with something i have that is similar in some way, and i like what i have.

Funds for sure...they are there...bills are paid...just can't quite convince myself still, guess im kinda frugal. It seems I get fixated on a knife and geek out on it for awhile, usually a month or two. Then sooner but usually later either I see something else and move on, or buy the knife I wanted and move on.

Nailed it my friend.

I found myself with a box of new knives that had been well, never been used and fondled a couple times. So I stopped buying for the most part and enjoy what I got.
