What surefire to get?

I am considering getting a surefire flashlight, and currently am considering 2 options, the G2 or the P6. I know a retail store that sells them, and though they have a limited supply, it is my preference because it is in Canada and I will not have shipping costs/customs to pay. This store sells the G2 for $45 CAD ($38.67 USD), and the P6 for $75 CAD ($64.45 USD). Suggestions, testimonials, or any other advice is greatly appreciated. I may also consider a Fenix if you know Canadian store (online or not) that sells them.

I have an older 6p i dont know if it is the same as the p6 but I love it an use it for searches as well as being my home defense, light.

both good choices. the only difference is the housing. metal v. plastic (or g10).
i like the g2 because of its price, i have three in various places, pack, car, garage. also because of the colors available.

otherwise identical lights.

Have the 6P with P61 head in it (120Lumen, 20min), also picked up the bulky plastic holder.

I use a light at work to get a different angle to see markings on parts, find the 120 lumen almost blinds me with fresh batts, I swap the factory 60lumen head in for the first week on new batts then go to the 120lumen for the next week. Have a few sets of batts for my Inova X5 now.

The one thing I really love is that when my SF dims, the batts STILL have 1/2 thier life left, toss em in the X5 for a month (35hrs on fresh batts, 15-20 from "dead" ones in the 6P)

I've got lights all over the place :p

The G2 and 6P are both great lights. However, if you get the G2Z, you can have the same lamps as the other two and you will get a more shock resistant flashlight.

Good find! I'm interested in a P1D CE. It has a better run time as well! Downsides are there's no tail button and it's only water-resistant, and it is more expensive. Also, does anyone know how uniform the beam is, or how blue it is? And do you think another Fenix might be better? Thanks for all advice.

I've got a G2 and it is a great light. However, since I purchased the A2 I haven't used it since. The A2 is the best light IMO.

You could get a SF 6P and then throw in one of the many great LED Drop-Ins available on the market. There are the G&P 3W and 5W drop-ins, as well as a new breed of Cree (aka XR-E) drop-ins. The Solatek XR-E drop-in smokes the P60 lamp found in the stock G2/6P not to mention longer runtime. My beamshots are below. The Solatek isn't cheap, at $50, but it is far more affordable than a SF LED and it outperforms a number of them as well. I know there are SF Cree lights coming, but I don't know when they are hitting the market.

I am also getting another Cree drop-in soon that is less than half the price of the Solatek, but the maker claims similar performance. I am eager to compare its performance.

Lighthound also sells a Cree drop-in, but I am not sure where it stacks up with the rest.

I have a Surefire 6P and it is pretty nice...however, if you can get your hands on a L4, take it!

i have 2 el1 , a m2 and a m3....they are great you will love them but i edc the el1....if i had it to do over ...i would get still get the el1's but i think i had rather have the L5 over the m2 and m3 . i am considering getting led conversions for them. You will Love the el1 if you get one....

I EDC a Surefire L-4 Digital Lumamax LED.

I like it better than the regular incandescent Surefires because of the whiter light, as well as battery life is slightly better.

I recently aquired an A-2 Aviator with white LED's, and I haven't decided if I really like it or not. The LED's are a bit dimmer than I thought they'd be, but the regular bulb is as bright or brighter than an E-2.

I know the LED Surefires are expensive, but you get what you pay for. The quality in these lights are second to none, and you won't be replacing bulbs every so often like you have to do with an incandescent. That can get expensive, and the cost will soon equal what you would have spent on the LED version.

Food for thought.

But again, those a very expensive! I think I'll end up getting a fenix P1D CE or L1D CE, they are $60-80 CAD.

You didn't mention that you had a price cap. I see the ones you mentioned were in the <$50 range, but I was just mentioning what worked best for me. I NEVER would have considered $200 for a flashlight until I bought the G2. It was such a great light and for what I do for a living, the A2 just seemed like the natural progression. I won't have to get another light ever. I love the A2.

But if you want to find out for yourself, get the G2 (or newer G3) and you'll fall in love too. Then you'll want an A2 also! :p :)

imho the top SF for edc is a L4, second place is a L2.

the P1D-CE is a great lite too for the money, the beam has plenty of throw and is brighter than either the L2 or L4. great little lites, when the new clickie body comes out it might replace the L4 as my edc, we'll have to see.

the 6P and G2 are both great lites too, of those 2 i'd probably get the G2 just because its lighter weight.
