Lately I'm thinking to carry a fully serrated folder for self defense. What do you think the best serrated Spyderco that suit the needs? I mean by the best, is the locking strength, and blade type. Cheers!

The SS ATR has the most aggressive serrations there are and you can't beat the compression lock either:thumbup:

I've never had a lock failure of any kind with a spyderco. The Civilian is sort of designed for SD. However, I know a few people that pack a Harpy for the same reason. I EDC a Tasman Salt with a SE for work purposes which is really just a scaled down, lighter, rust-proof Harpy. I know that if it came down to using it in SD, I would hate to be on the bite end of that knife. Not a stabber by any means but a fully serrated raptor claw.

I occasionally carry the Spyderco C-60 Massad Ayoob model. In the serrated version it sports a convex blade geometry that I find very nice indeed. The ergonomics of the handle make holding it during demanding situations feel natural.

They are getting a bit harder to find but they do show up from time to time. We had a very nice discussion about them on the Spyderco Forum slot here on Bladeforums just a few short weeks ago. Even Massad Ayoob himself and Spyderco's CEO Sal Glesser even chimed in on the thread.

And keep in mind that the knife was designed by a guy who was not only a firearms expert but a guy who also spent many years in law enforcement. Second to that if you have trouble finding an Ayoob model would be The Titanium version of the Spyderco ATR in fully serrated

Of all the fully serrated Spyderco's that I have I like the POLICE model. However, I think there are two drawbacks:

1) It is a heavy folder.
2) The handle is amazingly slippery!

I couldn't do anything to rectify the first of the two drawbacks but I did something to improve the second one. I took some floor lining that is made of a very durable plastic mixed along with metal bur and made it fit exactly on the upper part of the handle. I used a very strong two part epoxy and it is held there as if it came like this from the factory! This has increased the purchase of the knife significantly.

I know the Titanium version of the Spyderco ATR in fully serrated would be nice. But I still hope the Manix or the new Chinook flat ground will also come in SE version. Anything else?

I have been whining Sal about a fully serrated Manix for over a year now. That will be THE ultimate Spydie for me(so would a fully serrated Chinook for that matter)

The serrations on the Ti ATR are kinda shallow and rounded.

Well "Frids" there are 2 "Oldie But Goodie" Spyders that I would recommend in the fully serrated category. There is one model that I thought was the most well constructed of about any Spyderco knife I've ever seen. Actually there were 2 variations of that model. The C-14 and C-45 Rescue models with Stainless handles were built well enough to where you could literally drop one out of an airplane and it would survive. I really regret trading mine off about 6 months ago and have been looking for a replacement since then. Finding a Stainless Rescue model might be a bit tough because they only made them one year.

There is also the predecessor of that knife which is a super Classic and it was my first Spyderco ever. I am talking about the fully serrated Mariner. If you can find one of the later models in ATS-55 they are a jewell. But the Mariner in GIN-1 was a great knife too.

I totally agree with you in regards to making a Chinook III in fully serrated. I am really dumbfounded that they don't at least offer a few of them in the serrated variety. I am sure that if they had a run of 500 or so that they would sell out. For collectors if nothing else. The Spyders with a lot of BELLY in fully serrated are great SE blades for sure.
