Currently this is what I have:

Ontario Air Force Survival SP2
Boker Magnum Kalashnikov74 (Auto Conversion)
Cold Steel Recon 1 (Clip Point Plain)
Cold Steel Peacekeeper I
Cold Steel Voyager X2
(LOL! Save the comments about Cold Stee. These are about the only knives I've bought and will ever probably buy from them. In my opinion, though, I think they make the most affordable dagger, most affordable axis locker and nobody else makes a mass produced 13" folding Bowie that is the X2.)

What are some essential knives that you guys feel that everybody should own in their collection... (at this moment looking at ~$50-100 price range).

I have my eye set on some of the Ka-Bar fixed blades. Any recommendations? Maybe some Spyderco but I think think they look pretty plain, albeit they are of amazing quality.

I like the CRKT fixed blades as well but I'm not too sold on the whole linerlock + LAWKS deal. After using the Recon 1's axis lock I really don't like to use any linerlocking mechanisms anymore.

Collecting it to different to each persons taste, but my list of must"owns" would be:

1. Buck 110.
2. Victorinox SAK (preferably a Fieldmaster).
3. Good quality 3 blade Stockman.
4. Blackjack Trailguide.
5. Benchmade 735 ARES.

Spydie Delica
Benchmade Grip
Buck 110
Fallkniven A1
Queen/Case Canoe
Camillus BK7/9/10
Swisschamp
Vic Soldier in Alox
1 handmade fixed
1 handmade folder
Opinel

Everyone needs a SAK.
Where I do like the voyagers, the flimsyness of the X2 is shamed by the Cuda Maxx.

BM Mini-AFCK with M2-Blade, partially serrated, and Realtree-Scales
Spydie Delica plain, SS
Spydie Calypso, plain, with Micarta scales or UK Pen knife
Small Sebenza
Kershaw Mini Task (wharncliffe blade)
Spydie C22 (Walker), made by Klotzli
Mooremaker 5-blade, Serpentine Stockknife

Benchmade griptilian
Spyderco dodo
can't find one right now, but I think there are Spyderco manix for under $100
Leatherman charge
6" Cold steel folder for the mega collecters
controversial choice, MOD tactical hunter
If you can find one for under $100, a Buck strider tarani
My favorite little unheard of knife, the Paul Chen citizen

My A-list (of the knives that I own):

Almar Appelgate/Fairbairn dagger
Muela hunting knifes
Cold steel master tanto

Plus some other knives from unknown manufacturers. One is a hand made traditional knife from mountian dwellers in Ladakh. My all time favorite is the cold steel master tanto, a real must have (yet a little cliche, I guess).

one BM and one spydie.
Personnaly i have got BM940 and Spydie Endura 2, they are my EDC for the moment. I have got also a french cheap folder named "Douk-douk", that cost same price than an opinel and is scary sharp and thin.
Even if it is far from being the nicest knife i have got, it is one of my "must have" in term of usefullness !

Victorinox SAK. ;)

Paul

Pardon my ignorance (I am still a junior) but what is the SAK? I do own 2 victorinox knifes myself, one folder & one survival knife. I have seen several people post about the SAK, so this got me interested in this particular vicky knife :)

I think the essential knives are the ones you like. Everyone has their version of what's cool or not. I'd say a well rounded collection is one that includes knives off all shapes and sizes. Fixed, folders, auto's. Get whatever brands, models suit you.

That being said, you won't go wrong with any of the choices suggested.

hi nenofury,

for me "essantial knife" is the knife i own and i use often. The one i would regret not to have. The one i recommand to friends that have no knife: "hey Buddy, if i were you, i would buy this stuff first ...."

It's a bit different than "knife i like", because i like really much my BM nimravus, but i almost do not use it, i just like it !

Well the knife I use the most is a Frosts Mora, tough little bastard and it was only $8 ;)

The knife I carry the most is a Victorinox Rally, because it was free and fits on my keychain.

You know, you should check out the EDC thread to see what everybody is carrying, that will help a lot I bet.

A Victorinox sak

An Opinel

A Frosts Mora with the carbon laminated blade

A good carbon steel stockman.

Anything else is just bells and whistles.
