I sent them my 880SP in the first week of Feb for repairs since the lockup was pretty poor. There was a lot of vertical play in the blade and adjusting the pivot made no difference.

Well, after 2 phone calls last month asking what was going on, I finally got two boxes in the mail today. One contained my original knife, which locks up solidly now but the liner seats to the far right of the tang. In addition it was sharpened rather poorly, which is odd since the edge was unused and factory fresh when I sent it in. The other box contained a "replacement" which locks up even worse than my original unrepaired knife did. There's all kinds of play in the blade unless the pivot is tightened down to the point where the knife must be opened with two hands.

Sigh. That's the last Buck I'll ever buy.

sorry to hear that. I have a buck skinner that i like, but i've never bothered with their folders.

I ordered a Hartsook, and had to get another because the coating was not cured. Came off all over my hands. I tried to clean it off for 2 days, and the coating was STILL coming off. Even the guy at the knife store had to clean his hands after touching it. Got another and while the coating is uneven, at least it stays on!

...my original knife, which locks up solidly now...

...There's all kinds of play in the [replacement] blade unless the pivot is tightened down to the point where the knife must be opened with two hands.

I take both of those statements back. The blades still don't lock up solidly. The "repaired" knife's lockup loosens with just a few finger-strength wiggles of the blade, and the "replacement" knife's liner shifts around on the tang with a few finger-strength blade wiggles.

IMHO neither knife is safe for anything but the lightest-duty work, like cutting threads or slicing paper. :grumpy:  :thumbdn:

It makes you wonder what's going on in QC. No folder should go out the door like that. That just sucks, man.
