What the heck is going on?!?!?!

Very good work okzj, on your approach to this thread as much as the knife! You had legitimate concerns, you came to a place where you believed there were people with knowledge or experience on the subject, you asked honest questions, got input and put it directly into use resulting in the outcomes you were seeking. This thread is another example of how these forums can be not just an asset but a joy to visit.

It seems such threads are becoming rarer:(. If you observe these places long enough you realize that there are two types of inquirers on the forums, those sincerely looking for answers that they do not already have, and those simply looking for validation on conclusions they have already set in stone in their minds. The former ends in a knifemaker getting great start or advancing his progress quickly in the area of concern, it makes us feel just as good to have been of help in that process. The latter, is contentious, argumentative and often ends on the verge of flame war when the asker gets any answers aside from the ones they wanted to hear, and it leaves those taking time to respond feeling unappreciated and questioning why they bother with forums. Sadly the latter also seem to be more common around here lately:( (and why I click on so many threads now just long enough to get a feel for its tone and direction and then never click on it again).

Thank you okzj, for giving us a refresher in why we started visiting these places to begin with:thumbup:

Hey now.. that looks better! Just a note atf is faster than motor oil. Of course something like parks #50 is better. One thing I would like to point out is, as you go through what went wrong with the first knife it may be a good idea to change one thing at a time and do some experimenting. I would think though that we have at least narowed down what went wrong with the first one.

Or Houghton International's Houghto-quench "K", as fast or faster than Park #50 and more stabile... and available...
