What the HECK?!?!

I recently seen a picture of a LE version that was individually numbered . It was a tribute to Vietnam Veterans with a pad print on the blade. I seen number 108. Were there other LE's of this big ol Buck?

I was looking back in old thread's and there was a little buzz 15 year's ago about putting the blade in a 110 frame and even making a brass and wood frame for it. The pictures of it are part of the vast wasteland Photo bucket made. ..

The counter style fold out catalog I found it in doesn't have the normal coded date on the back corner page. Instead it has the anouncement
of Buck's Crosslock awarded ''Blades Magazine's Knife of the year 1994". No other dates are found in this catalog. There in I found "New Redesigned Buck Lites-- model 444BK, 442BK & 446BK . So, if I took this date as fact and it is miss leading. Then ok, I stated this an error.
There are others in this which are listed "as New" that we can check. The Nighthawk, Protege, Mentor and Rodeo Knives. This could give us a good place to start. DM

That's one big folder but the 110 looks like it has as much or maybe even more cutting edge? Anyone ever measure the actual cutting edge on both knives?

My 1995 Goliath has a cutting edge length exactly the same as a 110. The 446 is 3/4" longer overall when open.

What we need is a dedicated Goliath collector who can give a definitive date. The first mention in the main catalog is on page 12 of the 1996 edition where it says "NEW! GOLIATH". Two people here have knives with a 1995 date code. David has a brochure that talks about the 1994 Knife of the Year and new knives including the new Goliath. My guess is production started in 1995 but it didn't make it into the catalog until 1996.

I own one and it’s probably the largest folder Buck ever made. The only thing that bothers me though is that when it came out in the 90s it really felt like Buck was sort of copying and competing with the Gerber Gator that had been released in 1993. I own a Gator and side by side with the Goliath the blades are almost identical. Although the Goliath is an interesting knife the Gator has a better grip and feel in the hand.

It's big, I want one. Mostly I just want to reach in my pocket and pull it out at a fancy dinner party or at the office.
