They already know all of your info. I don't understand why they are asking for it. Want to freak out? Call PayPal and rell them you want them to "verify your account". They use a system that CC companies use, and they ask you questions the NSA probably doesn't know. They asked me multiple choice questions that were where I lived in my childhood, stepmothers maiden name, addresses from 20 years ago, etc. I stopped them and ask how they knew all that and they said it was a system creditors use, stuff I never gave out. I cant I'm how they knew some of it unless it came from school records.

I haven't had any issues using PayPal and they haven't asked for any extra information ...

PayPal is kinda needy. I opened an account when they first started, back when they were actually paying you to sign up. Some years ago my county changed the rural road numbers to actual addresses, which they then changed again like a week later. PayPal proceeded to lose their ---- over the whole thing and took years to figure out what happened. In the meantime they had to have my SS# and copies of my driver's license, birth certificate, and utility bills with my address just to reopen my account when they occasionally got the itch to lock it down.

hmmm i guess i gotta call , fing weird once i buy something that message about problem on their end pops up , i need to check if i got hacked or not or what it is , like i said i beem on for 18 years and never had this problem , i will give them a call later and see what they say

They locked my account at one time because a forum I was on got hacked and my email was compromised and some guy in China tried to open a parallel PayPal account. Thats why I had to go through the bs I mentioned above.

AFAIK, PayPal has been asking for crucial information such as SSN, full name, credit card / bank card for verification for a good number of years, unlike what it was like say 15 years ago when it was like the wild-wild West! No idea when you originally opened your account, but a robust information gathering has been their M.O. for quite a while!

Since you mentioned eBay, they will part ways with PayPal in 2020 as their primary payment service provider by shifting to an Amsterdam based Co named Adyen (not sh*tting U!). I think that PP will still remain as an option to pay, but not the sole and primary way. More reason for me to be convinced that eBay's downward spiral into the depth of the sh*tter shall continue.

I've used them (PayPal) three times in the last 48 hours. Transactions went smoothly as always, and with no new "procedural" steps needed to complete them.

Also I forgot to add to the topic: I have an online autocrat business which (sadly) still partly deals with eBay and I also use PayPal as a payment platform both with eBay and also directly. We do several transactions on a daily basis and I have not had any issues sending or receiving funds. The account I have with PP is a business account but I don't think that matters in terms of possible technical glitches!

don't do it, never had PayPal ask for Social, you're getting scammed.
Back when you signed up for PayPal you gave them your SSN. I spoke to a PayPal customer service rep last week and he explained that this is a PayPal popup in the upper right top of the page. Also, any email from PayPal will start out with your name and not "Dear Customer".
