What the hell?

Well, I'm shipping the knife off today. Purolator will ship it(damn UPS Canada all to hell for their refusal to ship knives:mad:), and Emerson says they'll cover return shipping.
So I'm feeling more happy about the situation now.
I guess in 2-3 weeks I'll have a knife in the condition I wanted.
Almost like getting a new knife again in a way.:)

Here's the tang burn. Couldn't get a good liner shot.

Hi Stabman, what was this mark? Just curious as i've never seen it on an EKI Karambit. Just wondering if the one you got was authentic. I'm no expert in Emersons, but also when comparing it with my Karambit, i noticed that in your picture there wasn't a recess cutout for the Stop pin either.

That mark next to the opening hole is the just the number, all production EKIs have a number.
I'm not sure what you mean by a cut out at the area for the stop pin ? The one in the pic is what they all look like.

I own five emersons. But haven't bought one since two years ago.I stick to spyderco, better price point and better fit and finish.

My apologies...Mine is a custom, and doesn't have the number. Also mine has a recess cut out for the stop pin as pictured here, and i assumed all Emersons had them.

The customs knives obviously have more attention payed to them and have a more hands
on production method so that's probably why there is a dimple on face for the stop pin.
I suppose it's not impossible that you might see that on the prodution knives. IIRC all the
Production k,bits I have owned and worked on were flat at the stop pin "face".

And, the custom kerambits are real nice knives, congrats on that one :thumbup:

I'm a fan of both brands. I will say that I do not agree that Emerson fit and finish is sub-par to Spyderco.

I have owned several different Emersons over time (CQC8, 11, 12, 13, SOCFK-B, SPECWAR B, SARK, Commander) and none had any fit and finish issues, other than the locks being stiff at first.

As for the price debate, that is a tricky one. Its hard to compare the two as they are quite different. I would admit that the new stonewashed finish is a much more desirable one, given the price point of the knives, new.

Sorry to hear about your karambit. I have no problem with mine yet! They are hard to find and most site are sold out of them.

Update: my knife showed up yesterday.
Apparently the tang burn is considered normal. Emerson says that the heat generated to produce that level of colouration does not affect the steel's properties.
The offending liner has been replaced.
The blade is now super pointy, and was resharpened(by Emerson himself, according to the e-mails).
It is now pretty much what I wanted when I bought it.:)
