what to buy on a budget

Hey guys, I am in the market for a sub $110 knife. My only requierments are that they have a lifetime warrenty, and a 3-4 inch blade. Some of the my ideas were the benchmade barrage, SOG visionary II, or the spyderco endura. What do you guys recomend?

Outside of the listed requirements any specific use or uses for this knife?

I just got a gerber applegate fairbairn. I dont have the full size, just the folder. Very nice, really enjoy it. Seems to take on any job i ask of it. Its also under a hundred bucks, check ebay.

I just checked the gerber site, I found these for around $36.00.

Just because a tactical professional wants to carry a pocketknife, it doesn't mean that knife can come with some frickin' formidable performance credentials. Witness the Applegate-Fairbairn Mini Covert. Signed by the designers and crafted to take crap from no one, this discreet folder is a real powerhouse.

Like its bigger brethren in the Applegate-Fairbairn line, the Mini Covert is all business. Agility. Speed. Balance. Control. Toughness. These are the traits that help make the Mini Covert a coveted piece of optional equipment.

I have and love my Endura 4 in fact I have 2 (one in black with a plain edge & one foliage green with a combo-edge for work/fishing) I also have an Endura 1 I have had since the early 90s and I have had no need for a warranty .I have recently purchased a Rat cutlery RC3 and I am not sure I have ever been as happy with a new knife,so happy in fact that I purchased a Izula today .With the price you want to stay under you can get an Izula at any online dealer and a Endura from the bay and be right at your price cap. Good luck finding the right knife or knives for you.

I carry my SOG Visionary II everyday. Bought it when they first hit the market (use to work for a SOG retailer). It's held an edge superbly and SOG is good about standing behind their products. I live about 10 miles from their Lynnwood, WA location. They will sharpen my knife for free and replaced the bent pocket clip for free, no questions asked and did it while I waited. Great knife!

I would try any knife you think you're interested in. Seeing a picture and actually handling a knife are two totally different things. I learned my lesson the hard way and will NOT buy a new (to me) knife ever again without handling it first. If you can handle each knife you're interested in I'd then make my second criteria the steel and go for quality like 154CM, AUS8, D2, S30V, etc. FWIW, the Buck 110 Basspro sells in 154CM http://tinyurl.com/lkjqs4 is a damn good knife. I would get one if I didn't like the Mini Rukus so much and have one on order. :D The 110 is a great handle design, fits my hands comfortably, is quality made, great steel, a good price, and lifetime warranty.

The people that hang out here are knife perfectionists. They would spend 5X more to get a blade 5% sharper or more durable. There's nothing wrong with perfection, but a fellow once said "For a few bucks today, you can get a knife blade much better than our forefathers used when they settled this country".

I use a blade every day, but for light to moderate work. So the majority of my collection are lower priced, moderate duty blades. I get along just fine. Today I like the Chinese-made Buck's, Schrades, and other old-line names who have moved overseas for significant economies. Rough Rider, too. Today I've got a cheap Pakistani folding Whittler in my pocket. The long, skinny blade cut and buttered my bagel just fine and neatly opened a letter. It reached to the bottom of the jelly jar, too.

Buck Sirus or SOG Flash. Both assisted openers and both excellent knives for the money.I have $400.00 folders and $30.00 folders if you are going to use it for moderate work and not bet your life on it in the woods buy the $30.00 knife.

Folder,I'd go Buck 110,it's a timeless classic.Fixed blade,I'd go Rat all the way. Both are awesome cutlery companies, with unbeatable guarenties.

The Manix 2 for a hard use, ultra tough knife of premium materials or the Stretch 2 FRN for one of the best slicing, most ergonomic (and lightweight) mid sized folders out there. That Stretch FRN might be the ideal EDC knife with it's 3.5" FFG blade that can really cut. Both of the knives I mentioned are tremendous values at $80 or so each.

Id have to say the Endura. Ive had one on my person off and on for almost 20 years. Great knife.

Find ye olde Wally World - and get a Buck 110 - the best $27 + s/t knife you'll find. Save your moola... and, if you want another even neater version of the 110, check out their custom knife shop on the Buck site. If you like liner-locks, look for the new-this-year Buck #347 'Vantage Pro', mine was $56 inc s/h. It has a liner lock, 3+" S30V blade, CNC carved Dymondwood scales. Mine is a keeper. Seriously, try one knife - then decide what you want. I wouldn't spend it all on a 'maybe you'll like it' knife. Those Buck knives are US-made (The 110's sheath is either from Mexico (leather) or PRC (nylon).

Ha...glad I ran across this post. I just bought myself a vantage pro. I really dont see how you can go wrong with a Bos HT s30v blade.
