What to call this...

I got my brother one of those Dumpster Mutt's with the Busse Basic handle last year and he still hasn't used it yet. I need to "borrow" it, lol. That thing is like a sharpened railroad spike, awesome!
speaking of a sharpened railroad spike
i just got a fatty coyote warden saturday...ive never seen anything like it. im going to post pics tomorrow w/ the scotch dispenser that should arrive tomorrow

if you are going to hammer into something hard you need SR-77

SR-77 is indeed very tough stuff. Given the same circumstances I think that SR-77 would have the same effect. Nails are softer than hard solid stone.

****looks around for a rock****

which brings up a good question...

once you have a roll and push it straight again, does that area become more cosmetic than functional?

i mean, it must loose integrate while being deformed and realigned.

i would think in my situation of being in constant danger and surrounded by broken glass and smuched beer cans that i would just prefer to resharpen the whole damned thing.

right?

.

I must of been drinking today:confused:

Makes sense to me, skunk.

 That's a heck of a dinger JN, and a great offer by Ban.

Easiest way to find out is to get a 10x or better loupe, I actually use a cheapo 30x portable "microscope" (hah) that works great. If you can get a clean magnified look at the damage it's pretty easy to see. Smushes will have a smooth surface whereas chips will have a grainy look to them. That to me looks like a roll/smush that then sheared of, probably didn't hit the rock dead on but with a glancing blow that just happened to bite into the rock enough to muss up the edge when it skated off.

my fbble looks like that all over...lol but mine gets trashed every day..... i just sharpen her back every month or so....

Ok, chopping a few invasive vines in the common area behind our house with one of my Busses. Wifey asks me to chop this big (1" thick) root of one mother of a Honey Suckle vine that was attempting to kill a 40' Pine and another 20' Pear tree...

Whack at it a few times and wallah, damage from a small quarze stone in the ground next to the root that I didn't see. Ugh, all my fault. :(

So, I was wondering what this is called. A chip? A dent? A roll? There are two areas that were impacted. My assumption is the the one closer to the tip is a series of rolls whereas the lower one is a dent. Opinions? Just not sure what to call this nor the best plan of action to bring the edge back. TIA!

JN,
I think I would call it slightly used with some slight rolling where it went into a Kydex tree root/rock. Easily sharpened out  You were looking for a sale thread right  LOL, it's not gonna be hard to take care of, Oh' Jeep O' Steel. I tried to put a smiley here but too many images!
