What to carry -- do clothes matter?

Do you choose your knife based on clothing?

So I know many of us have a habit of picking out an EDC each morning based on what we'll be doing (e.g., digging in the yard vs. going to church). However, how many of us pick the knife also based on what we will be wearing?

I actually choose the knife so that the pattern and colors roughly match the clothing I'll be wearing in the office that day. Laugh if you will, but I want to know if any others will admit to doing this too. :D

I don't try to match what I wear as much as choosing the appropriate knife for what I am wearing. For example I can carry my Cold Steel AK-47 clipped in my carpenter jeans but it is way to heavy for dress slacks at church. If I am wearing my 5.11 vest I can carry my Spyderco Catcherman but it is too long to be comfortable in the pocket of my pants. During the winter when I am wearing gloves I will often change from a folder to a FB to make things easier.

So yes, I do pick knives depending on what I wear but no, I don't color coordinate.

Nope, I just pick my knife depending on what I think I'll be doing that day.

Well, I match the knife to what I am going AND where I am going. For instance, if I am going to Boston or a surrounding town, I NEED to have a knife that has a 2 1/2 inch blade MAX. I do choose the knife bases on what I am wearing. If I am dressing up, than I will pick a fancier knife and so on.

Bah!! A REAL knife knut does not make sure that his knife matches his clothing, instead, he matches his clothing with his knife. :D

I don't choose knives aesthetically (re: clothing anyway) - unless you mean carrying EDC based on A) potential utility and B) possible issues with certain knives.
Office EDC is different from Dress EDC and Woods EDC.

Normally, I carry a smallish SAK and a Sebenza. If I am forced to wear a suit that day, I carry the smallest/flattest 2 blade SAK I have, instead.

I carry the same pocket knives (folding and fixed) whether working or not working. It's pretty much a suit or jeans.

The big difference for me is at work I can't hang a fixed blade on my belt. If I'm home or out and about evenings/weekends I can and in most cases do.

I wear a suit to work everyday so I usually carry my CRK Mnandi or SAK Cadet that fit into the change pocket of my pants. When I am not at work and wearing jeans I usually carry a more substantial knife (full size Grip or Sabenza as opposed to the mini Grip or small Sabenza) The "suit knife" factor also has to do with the people I'm with if I actually take the knife out and use it. "Over civilized"office types tend to freak out if you pull out a full sized Sebbie at work.

My SAK with black handles matches my black suit that I wear with a silver buckle, cufflinks, and tie bar perfectly...but just out of coincidence. Like most people here, its more a matter of what is appropriate, necessary, and works over style.

Match the color of my clothes? No.
(If this were in W&C I'd make that "no" a tad stronger.)

Yes it matters to me, but simply because the pocket size differs between the pants.

On a few pairs, the pockets are too small to clip a folder and still be able to get my keys. So I carry a smaller FB without a clip or a FB.

It's that simple.

I pick the knife that will best suit my needs for the day. I don't care if it doesn't match my outfit! For example--Flannel shirt flannel knife? or blaze orange hunting gear orange knife? I don't think so! Although blaze would be kinda cool....

I don't carry a certain knife depending on my clothes but I do vary my knife depending on what im doing. If you count that I carry my knives different places in different clothes then I guess Im guilty.

If I'm going to be wearing something like a coat or jacket I often have a heavier knife in one of the pockets than I would usually carry in a pants pocket.

I choose my clothes and my knives both, for where I'm going and what I'm doing. Form follows function.
They can't help but match.

A SAK Tinker and a SE Endura is the basis of my EDC...so around the house this is what I have on me all the time.

I add to them as follows...If going out for a quick errand, I add a Mantis Kerambit...For work out goes the Kershaw Lahar...For truly scary nights out my newly acquired Camillus CQB-1 rides my left hip.

For Sundays which is Church day, Instead of the Endura and Tinker, I carry the Spyderco Tenacious SE and a Wenger Soldier.

Generally speaking, the nicer I dress, the less obvious the knife will be. But this is Tucson here, and nice dress, at certain times of the year (like right now), can still mean short sleeves and shorts.
