Do you choose your knife based on clothing?

When I head out the door I ALWAYS have a Gerber 450 E-Z Out clipped in my wasteband. Everywhere... everyday... whatever clothes.. whatever vehicle.. It may not be the latest rage but it has never failed to open fast and cut. I sometimes add a Mark 1 if I feel the area is that unsecure.

Nope, my EDC Endura is basic black, matches my heels and evening gown or jeans and pennyloafers equally well. Mac

One of the reasons I settled on a mini Griptilian as EDC is that I can manage to carry it no matter if I am dressed up or down, so I don't have any need to change the knife based on my attire.

Yes,

I think EDC varies based on clothing. Something simple like a Spyderco Delica or a tiny Ladybug would pretty much go anywhere whether you wear a suit to work or jeans/casual.

Carrying a ZT300 might make your typical suit clad office workers soil themselves silly....unless you get someone to make a phone/Blackberry holster for it :p

This is why I will outfit the folders I carry with a deep carry clip. This way only a pocket clip is showing, and it you have a dremel tool and a little skill, you can shorten the clip and thin it out a little to almost resemble a pen clip. My current edc, a ZT0500 MUDD, came with a deep carry clip, but I made some "improvements" on it to better fit my needs. Still boils down to picking my clothes to fit my knife!!;):D

So I know many of us have a habit of picking out an EDC each morning based on what we'll be doing (e.g., digging in the yard vs. going to church). However, how many of us pick the knife also based on what we will be wearing?

I actually choose the knife so that the pattern and colors roughly match the clothing I'll be wearing in the office that day. Laugh if you will, but I want to know if any others will admit to doing this too. :D

Hell yes!
I could have just bought more of a type of clothing which would suit a few of my knives better(would have been cheaper:eek:), but, I used the fact that certain knives go better with certain clothes as an excuse to buy WAY more knives!
Seriously, some knives look like you're going out to slay zombies with a certain pair of pants, but look perfectly normal with another. Plus, the pocket depth and angle dictate different knives for different pants, if you want comfort and/or ease of deployment.

Match the color of my clothes? No.
(If this were in W&C I'd make that "no" a tad stronger.)

Chicks dig it when your accessories and clothes match better.
I'd rather enjoy the appreciative looks of the ladies than think it isn't somehow "Manly" to co-ordinate.
Besides, it's a PERFECT excuse to buy more knives; what's wrong with THAT???

i like to carry my lighter knives during the summer because i usually wear cargo shorts that are fairly thin/light

I have two knives that I use as EDCs. The first is a Kershaw Random Leek with stainless finish and clip. The other is a Shallot with DLC black coating and black clip. Which knife I grab depends on the color of pants I am wearing.

There are enough sheeple out there that making my knife, and especially the clip, blend in seems like a good precaution. A stainless knife clipped onto the pocket of black dress pants can draw a lot of attention quickly.

Besides, its an excuse to tell the Wife when I want to buy another knife.

Its all dependant on the pants I'm wearing. Dress pants are going to demand a light and more nimble knife. With jeans I can go heavier with the Striders and larger Spydercos etc.

So it doesnt have to match...its all dependant on the payload of my pocket seam

For some reason I tend to wear darker pants/slacks. During off time, here in the southeast, now that it is summer, I wear cargo shorts and most of mine are OD green. I found that by putting black 3M Stair Step tape on my clips that it helps to "camoflauge" the clip against the background of my dark pants. I tried painting, but the paint would wear/scratch off while this 3M product has some GREAT adhesive and stays on the clip, but is easy to remove if so desired.

Agreed with the Tucson heat, I live in Sahuarita and it is darn hot! I 've been attacked by gangbangers and woke up to a thief in the next room. No matter what I wear its a tactical back up of good quality and a nice Case slippie for everyday cutting tasks.

I don't try to match a knife to the color of my clothing.

In the winter at the office I can wear a leather jacket with khakis or dress pants. If I take my leather jacket I have a Herbertz stag horn hunting knife with a 4 in. blade in my inside breast pocket. No one know it's there and it works great.

When it warms up I can hardly carry a fixed blade knife like that in my pants pockets so I carry a Victorinox Pocket Pal. it doesn't take much room at all and if I have a dress shirt on I put it in my shirt pocket for easy access. Right now I've been carrying my Boker EFD to work clipped to my khakis and company polo shirt.

Of course other factors play in. If a customer comes in I don't want them to freak out when they see my boker!....in those cases best to leave it in the car and take the SAK Pocket Pal.

My morning clothing dilemma involves picking out the color of 5.11 pants to wear. Thus, any knife is fair game any time, within legal bounds.
