I think I might have gotten ripped off on Ebay, and I was wondering what most people do under those circumstances. So far, it has only been about a week and a half, but I mailed the check and have heard nothing in response. It's too early to tell for sure, but I wanted to know what everybody has done or whould do when faced with this situation.

I have found that most transactions from eBay happen VERY SLOWLY, so I'd give it at least another week before you worry too much.

I'm trying not to, but the part that worries me is the lack or response to inquiries.

If you sent a check, be prepared to wait. Any savvy seller is not going to ship your item until that check clears and it can take up to ten days depending on the bank. Send him an inquiry via e-bay to let you know when he gets the check. Hopefully you'll hear from him soon. Good luck!!:D

Well I FINALLY got a repsonse from the seller, and they said they have been busy and I should be getting the knife soon. I freaking hope so. I've been Cricketless since my old one broke like 6 months ago!

1) Did this seller have lots of good (like 98%-plus) feedback? That would make me worry less.

2) Do YOU have lots of good feedback? That should help in dealing with the seller.

3) Were email communications prompt before you sent the payment (after which there would probably be no need to email until the seller received it)? If so, you should expect a prompt reply if you email inquiring about the status of the shipment.

4) Did you email after 2 or 3 days of not hearing back to inquire whether the check had arrived? Communication instead of worrying in silence is the key.

5) Was it a personal check that would cause the seller to delay shipping until it cleared? That might account for some of it.

I find that going overboard on communication and reassurance is very helpful. I will include my phone number when emailing trading partners sometimes, just to let them know I am for real and can be contacted. When paying with a money order, I usually email a scan of the money order to the seller as soon as I get home from the post office.

I have had two eBay sellers voluntarily send their knives before receiving the payment because of my doing that (combined with my 100% positive feedback, no doubt).

Don't let too much time go by worrying. Go ahead and touch base with the seller (I know that is not necessarily required in this instance, but as a general rule).

always request the sellers personal info.. that you can get from ebay directly... Giving them a ring ring usualy gets em rolling right away..

1) They had 98% positive feedback. The part that kind of worried me was that the two negative comments they had were about the buyer paying and never receiving the item.
2) I have 100% good feedback, but that is only like 4 comments because I rarely use my account. Snow = poor. :(
3)Yes. I never heard back.
4)Yes, and again I never heard back.
5)Yes. I think this was the reason for the delay. I did what knifenut43 suggested and used the "ask seller a question" option on ebay and heard back today, so I am gaining confidence. Thanks for the advice, guys!

Well I received a knife today from the seller, but not the knife I won in the auction. The auction was for a SE Cricket, and the knife I received was PE. I am soooooo not happy right now. I'm considering trading it back to them if they actually have an SE, but I'm afraid of how long it might take to get the correct knife.

I had the same thing happen, but with a watch I bought at a major auction site; It was the right watch, just the wrong model. I sent the wrong watch back, and after about a week, I received the correct watch, and a refund of my re-shipping costs. Contact the seller and hopefully he/she will make it right for you.

I highly do not recommend sending the knife back.

What I suggest is selling the knife on eBay if you don't want to keep it. You may lose a couple dollars or maybe you'll make a couple dollars. I personally ordered a used DSL modem that did not work for me, so I sold it back on eBay and ended up making 5 dollars, and it ended up working for the person i sold it to. So everyone won.

After you sell it, contact a reliable and honest seller on here (*cough cough ME cough cough*) or ask around here for recommendations and buy from someone here.

In the future, pay with a credit card and hopefully one that allows disputes of less than $50 charges. I think AMEX lets you dispute any amount of charge, but I am unsure ( i dont have an AMEX card ).

I wouldn't rely on eBay or Paypal to help you dispute any charges.

Whenever I buy on eBay, I always use a credit card, and that's it. There are a lot of sellers looking to make a quick buck in a dishonest way.

Well that's just my $0.02

What's up with E-bay lately anyway? A member here at BFC bought two laptops and after paying found out they were both scams. Yesterday I bid and won an auction on a wireless Lan card for one buck and then discovered the seller e-mailed me to tell me I won ten seperate auctions!!!!

Of course now I risk getting ten negatives if I do not pay up for each and every one eventhough I did not bid.

I am starting to get real hincky about E-bay:(
