What to do while camping

I spend a fair amount of time preoccupied with food and cooking.
We also tend to go for hikes and a scenic drive or two to break up the monotony.
After a couple of days I get relaxed enough to just sit and enjoy the environment that I am in.

Watch what happens when you throw an unopened can of beans in the fire. Keep a good distance away!

Bring 200 beers with you, bring that many empties back.

Find a dead log and practice knife and axe throwing.

Fishing.

Eating fresh fish!

Definitely get to know your dad better. I am 45 years old, one of 4 kids in our family. I never got much alone time with my dad. Now, he is older and we couldn't go camping together anyway. But now, I realize how much I don't know about him. I was putting together a slide show for my parents 50th anniv. a few years back, and had access to all their old photo albums. I saw so many old pictures of them when they were younger. It was then I realized I didn't know much at all about them. They are both getting older, and the time I can spend with them is ticking away.

Challenge yourself to talk to your dad about stuff, and try some cool things together like the camp crafts that were mentioned.

Do it right, and you'll have a priceless memory that will stay with you.

Be sure to share your trip with us after. Good luck!

Shoot some guns.

We also fly kites,
don't seem to find the time for it otherwise.

Reading a book is great too,
I like old philosophy, like
Meditations of Marcus Aurelius.

Buy a star map and learn the constellations.

Gaze into the coals of the campfire until you become aware of
the architecture of the civilization of the sprites.

Spit rotgut peach brandy in the fire and laugh.

Cook hot dogs on a stick over the fire,
and marshmallows.

Better yet:

Halve and hollow an orange, fill one half with chocolate cake batter,
close it, wrap in foil and cook it in the coals.

Eat it while it's still warm.

It turns out im not going camping. Weather is suppose to be 80 degrees at night with 95% humidity. Its to bad, i was looking forward to it. :(

There is no chance of getting bored on camping trips as there is so much to do and opportunities waiting. Setting up camp and gathering wood is time consuming, and cooking meat over an open fire takes time and patience. Then there are all the other activieties; fishing, canoing, exploring, hiking, swimming, games on the beach, target shooting with bow & arrow or firearms, games and singing around the campfire, video and photography, and perhaps a TV with DVD for in the tent late at night or poor weather. The list is nearly endless.

If you are bored while camping you are doing it wrong. Especially if you go this time of year. There's lots to do.

I love to hike. If you know were to camp you can find endless miles of dirt trails to explore. If you're not into hiking you can do stuff with the water. Swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking are all exteremely fun. Of course you can find endless games to play. After it gets dark you can take the kids on a snipe hunt.

If your out there to relax you can always bring board games, card games and whatever to play. Some people bring balls, gloves and what-nots.

If you camp in the mountains rock climbing is fun (when I could do it, it was a great past time).

If you go the proper time of year for it, hunting and trapping are always great past times.

Get in touch with the world around you. Examine rocks, plants, leaves, bugs. Make something. Fish. learn about the history of the area you are going to camp and look for evidence of past land use. Pick up other people's litter. It is good for the environment and good for you. Take or rent a boat, canoe or kayak. Get to know your Dad. You may be surprised to find that he is an interesting person with an interesting past. Discuss common interests and future goals. Learn firebuilding if there isn't a burn ban. Try some creative campfire cooking. Learn how to pitch a tarp for a day shelter even if you are using a tent at night. This is an excellent opportunity to learn (or teach) different knots.

Exact ingredients for a good experience.
