What to Do with an Old Messenger Bag

My Rothco Messenger Bag is beginning to show some signs of wear. I'll definitely see if I can sew it up and whatnot, and I'll definitely buy another Rothco Messenger Bag when it's no longer able to hold it's own (no pun intended). The strap has been fraying...I've only had it for several months but I guess I overestimated what I could carry in it. It's still strong and holds up to just about anything...its just the part where the strap meets the bag thats fraying.

My question is this: What can one do with an old messenger bag without the straps? My guess would be to use it in the trunk of the car to hold supplies. Lucky for me, the Rothco Messenger bag is cheap yet incredibly durable, so I know that when I buy the next one, I'll know how much the straps can take. However, I'd hate to just throw it away just because the strap frayed...the bag itself is a champ and is damn near impossible to rip apart.

you could just buy another strap... or make one from similar canvas type material. Or even make one from paracord.

Yep, get some strap and sew it up heavy duty. The only thing I can add beyond what the other guys said is buy Singer Brand black thread that is marked on the label, "Carpet and Upholstery." It is super strong and if you don't know how to sew, learn!

Have you contacted the manufacturer to voice your disatisfaction? Why not give them the opportunity to make things right and earn a loyal customer? It couldn't hurt to mention that you posted your problem on a really swanky internet forum...

Invest $12 in a stiching Awl like the (awl for all) and stich it back on your self if contacting the manufacturer dosen't work. my stiching awl see's alot of use repairing sheaths, packs and other heavy use gear
