What to do with Gift knives?

First off I'm sorry if this is meant to be in Whinne and Cheese, but I'm honestly curious, what do you guys do with the knives family and friends get you as gifts?

With Christmas around the corner I've been looking at the small and quiet stack of Winchester limited edition collectors sets and Knives like the Gerber EVO that have all walked into the house in wrapping paper and now sit like a dirty secret as far away from my other knives as I can get them.

I'm making suggestions this year instead, but for the ones here already it feels a little rotten since they are just trying to be thoughtful, but what do you do with them, using them would eman putting aside knives i like better in the mean time, selling them seems harsh since they were gifts, and so does ignoring them.

Is there anything to do with these guys?

... actually this does sound a little like whinne, just be grateful you think?

I personally have avoided this problem by telling people that if they are considering getting me anything, look at my wishlist on Amazon. There is something there for every price range, and no reason for anyone to get me anything that they aren't sure about.

If I did end up with a ton of folding knives I didn't want though, I would donate em to a local scout troop. If they ask, tell em you wanted to help the troop out and they needed some pocket folding knives.

Re-gift them to someone less fortunate who will appreciate and use them. This is what I have done.

Beat the sh!t out of them and do everything that I wouldn't do with anything I spent a decent amount on :D
I just have with them and enjoy em, I do appreciate people getting me gifts that pertain to my interests

those generally get put into backup tool bags, vehicles etc. Just the very, very, last knife option if for some reason I dont have my usual or the normal backup isnt there. otherwise Ill invite a few friends over and we'll pull out the ol' dartboard and have fun tossing them

I use them as sacrifices to the gods of steel :D. Actually I dont think I have been gifted any knives since I really started getting into them.

Get rid of them. I never understood why people feel that they owe the person who gives them a gift to hold on to that junk until they die. It's not your fault they gave you a crappy gift. Sell them or toss them into the goodwill pile. Life's too short to be weighted down with disposable junk.

The wishlist idea is good, but I've had it backfire on me in the past when someone remembered, delightfully, that they had seen a similar product at Walmart at a considerably lower price. :barf:

I have a Lone Wolf Longhorn I won in a giveaway.......I use it. It's a nice knife.

I use them to practice my freehand sharpening or stash them in vehicles or random places you never know where you may need a knife.

good idea....then again i like the idea of practicing sharpening to, i need to learn... or maybe arm the homeless, do something for humanity is always good, you know. :)

Arm the homeless, just wipe them down first.

That’s exactly what I did, I made a pack with a small zip lock bag of $5 cash, this tool that I got for $2 and a Bic lighter. I plan on giving it to one of those guys with the cardboard signs.

This might sound strange to some but, I was raised to be grateful for gifts. I don't expect a Sebenza from someone that has no clue what the difference between a good knife and a bad one is. In my eyes, it's the thought that the person went out of their way, was thinking about me and was kind enough to give me a knife that counts more than the knife itself. I buy my own knives, guns, etc. And I don't get a kick out of making people feel foolish for their generosity. Gratitude is a hard thing to come by these days.

I will try and steer people in the direction of Buck, Spyderco, Kershaw, etc. if they are thinking of a bare bones economy knife.

fascion: hadn't thought of that.

to redevil: I agree, that'd part of my question. those that gift me knives are people I care about a lot. I feel a little pompus judgingthe knife itself since id have no clue what to get for omeone else interest unless they told me,which is what o try to do now. but the ones I have been given already sit unused and that feels bad to.

I think maybe I should just be grateful and let them lay. thanks for the imputed all and if anyone has found something else to do with gift knives, don't hold back.

Use them in the garden to save my edges on my good ones. That way I still use them.

You know those people who ask , " Can I borrow your knife?"
Give 'em the gifted ones to use.

Use 'em as yard knives. Makes it a win/win.
