What to do with junk knives??

That's a good suggestion. Occasionaly someone posts up here they are wanting to start sharpening on a belt sander. This method definately requires some practice before attempting a quality blade.

That's exactly what I did. I used some S&Ws as practice before flat-grinding my Delica.

After having a Kershaw, Benchmade, and 2 Spydercos, I will never buy one of those junk knives again. For the money I wasted on all those cheap knives, I could have bought a really nice Kershaw.

I feel the same way. I bought a Gerber Paraframe II for $25, two S&W tantos for $10 each, and then a S&W... some bigger folder... for $16. There's the money for a Kershaw OD-1, Zing or a FFG Delica =\

Live and learn, I suppose.

I work at an Italian restaurant. In the back they have this drum of old knives, once when my boss was a dick I stole a cool meat cleaver/machete once. Well his wife was cleaning out the back rooms an she knows I like knives and she asks me if I want any. So I look through and I find some very sturdy kitchen knives made of 9Cr13MoV and I'm like (these aren't crap) just a little tarnished. So i took them home and sharpened them and they got dangerously sharp.

I ended up giving them to a friends mom who cooks for me every time I'm over as thanks. She was looking for good kitchen knives.

I have a "dead knife" bucket in the garage. I beat on them, abuse them, experiment with them, etc. I take the edges & points off and let my son take them apart. (My motto used to be, 'cheap knives - annoying but fun to kill.')

thx - cpr

I take 'em apart and see if I can use any of the parts, ie screws, pocket clips, standoffs, and pmaybe pivots, and even washers if they have them.

My most recent use was a folover clip from a Winchester marked knife that cost all of $10 new. Actually the clip was the best part on it! Used the clip on my Ontario Retribution 1.

Freeky cutter... I just did that with my Winchester. Stainless deep pocket carry clip with a W on it. I'm still looking for a knife to put it on.
