What to do with pinetar?

How do you remove it? My lab has two spots on his head that have pine tar on it he must of been rooting around in the woods. Been waiting for it to wear off but its been a week and its still there.

Pine sap/resin is oil soluble. Just rub a little vegetable oil or peanut butter on it and it'll dissolve it. Then use soap to remove the oil.

Yep, I use a 40-40-20 mix of (real)turpentine, linseed oil, and pine tar, respectively, as a finish on my wood knife handles.

I just got done putting a 4th coat on a knife handle - how many do you usually do? I like a glossy finish, any pointers? I was expecting this to smell somewhat good, like the smell of pine sap (I like it) but it smells like death!
