What to do with this knife

I have this knife, a replacement sent to me from the factory. I'm not gonna tell you what brand knife because I think that's immaterial.

IMO, the design is poor to bad, objectively it's probably safe but I don't want to use it. It's new condition, FWIW.

What should I do:

Take a hammer to it and toss it in the trash?

Give it away? (I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that)

Send it back yet again to the Manufacturer and say, "Here, keep this as a reminder of not thinking when designing a knife"?

I'll take it.;) Just kidding. Since you really don't seem to like it, maybe you can get your money back. Does that manufacturer make anything you like? Maybe you could get credit or something like that. Otherwise, I would sell it cheap.

Might be someone else would actually like it. Even if it's questionably safe for you it might be perfectly safe for someone else (some people like slipjoints). The handle might fit someone else perfectly. Some people would rather have quick sharpening than long edge-holding. I'm not saying all knives are really equally good and it's just a matter of taste, of course, but preferences do vary, and people can find surprising uses for knives that seem useless to others. I know a guy who likes cheap knockoff American tantos. He's an auto mechanic and he uses them to scrape off the remains of a gasket when he takes something apart. He likes good knives too, but he wouldn't use them for that.

Send it back. Tape some notes to it outlining the features that you think are deficient.

Don't be mean about it, it's just an opinion and others may not see those features as deficient. Returning it to them and not asking for money lends a certain air of authority and responsiblity to your complaints, IMO.

FWIW, I did post my opinions politly about the problems and the manufacturer acknowledged my concerns so I guess they know now that I think about it.

In a nutshell I think the knife was not designed for how it was marketed. ALso it was included free when I purchased some other stuff so I don't have nay money in it, just a little time and effort.

Dave,

Sounds like you are not out any thing, just disappointed in the knife. Give it to someone, who knows you may create a knife knut.

I faced simillar "problem" just a few months ago. I got a bonus knife together with a catalog from one company ... but the knife was useles (for me). Then someone was looking for that type of knife - the knife would be used in a movie - but it was difficult to get it in that particular (very knife-unfriendly) country. So I sent the knife to them and they were very happy and that made me happy too - and the world looked suddenly better as well :):).
