What to do with well used user knives

I had a bunch of users that just sat around in a box. I got tired of them not getting used, so I sharpened them up, and distributed them among my friends. I know they're getting used well now.

I guess you could either sell them at a reduced price, have some kind of giveaway or contest, or give them to deserving souls. Or you can just hang on to them.

If they're still functional(ie lock is still safe, movement is minimal)...

clean em up and
*give em away to friends and family to bring some over to our side of things
*boy scout sale for reasonable prices(not gonna make a fortune but it's more than giving em away)
*give them to either protection services(LEO, fire and ambulance) or military to be put to good use serving everyone.

I've given away a good dozen knives to friends and family, sold 4 beaters to a guy at work for $20 for all of em.

Send it back here... I can make that 60% into 90% most likely... ;)

Take Care

The LEO is still one cutting machine!!! It's D-2 [as you know:D ] and takes quite the edge. The 40% missing is in "appearance" which seems to be the biggest factor when deciding to sell/trade.

I have a Microtech socom, a 1998 model plain edge that has been used hard for 6 years. It has been sharpened only twice so there is still close to factory edge remaining. However the finish is gone, handles worn, clip bend, and is generally gunked up. If I was in the market for a socom I would not give me 25 cents for this one cause it looks ugly!!!

Or a SOG Flash ll that is still as sharp as the day it was produced but it was borrowed and used by a friend whose hands were covered in light blue paint. Talk about ugly!!!

Or a benchmade 940 that was used to cut flooring and carpets. All the finish [BT] is gone and the knife looks awful. But it still has lots of blade life left.

I will give a few away and hope they will still be used. However there are a few that truly have met the 'end of their life' and although they might have 40% left have earned the right to be retired.......................................................................to the dump!!:D

I'll give ya 25 cents for your Socom. :D But seriously, I would gladly pay shipping on any knives you plan on throwing out. and I am sure other young knife nuts like myself would gladly take them off you hands.

I amy have missed it in the above posts but I imagine you can List them on the trade forums and come up with differing combinations and acquire new or differnet things.

Then I would post a photo and 17,000 formites would bust out in a collective ROFLMAO!!!:D

Some look like they anchored a nuclear blast!! I have a Proto Delta Z with carbon fiber handles that opens and locks fine, has some blade life left [but is very dull] but looks like hell. I carried it for a couple of weeks in May while I helped a buddy renovate three bathrooms. The knife got worked beyond what it should have and now looks like sh*t.

But it does resemble a folding knife.

I have five or six that I will both gift and do a pick a number type of raffle for anyone who really needs a knife but can't afford one. the only requirement is they shoot before abd after photos should they attempt to rehab them....

After the Holidays I will dispose of them, [except one that must be trashed cause it truly looks bad and most people would have a hard time calling it a knife!!! Long story but it was lost in 6-8 feet of river and subsequently recovered two months later. Gives new meaning to "acid rain" and how it affects New England waterways............

For the truely dead ones I like the idea of the passaround. Let people try sharpening different steels and so forth. Without any worry of serious damage. For the other's the Boy Scout and Military donatations seem like a good idea.

I have been reading this for a while and man you have used your knives as normal craftsmen do.

Nothing to whine abaut.

I count the knives lifes to last as long as the tool is steady and can be resharpend to cut. ( if the edge gets thick, use a grinder wheel) Use the ugly knife again when you work and carry the pretty ones when you dont expect them to get seriously used.

If a knife would be without life after this little use its not a good quality knife. Look at oldtimers, as farmers for example using their small stockmans for half their lifes until they wear out the blades. Now we talking knifes that has been used until the life is out of them.

If you dont like them because they got ugly dont misscount this as they are finnished. Sell or give to someone that will use them without the bother of looks. This is circulation of good equipment and bouth god and the environment likes this.
