What to get?

Well, first if have no money. Now that I have some money, I don't know what to get first. I know I could use a big belt grinder, I have a sears 2" x 42" currently that works O.k. But I do what to start make folders soon so a tabletop mill, could be useful. I do have a drill press, so I don't need a new one. I do plan to set aside $200 or so, for materials(steel, etc..). I do know that wether I should get the mill or the grinder, I have to spend money on bits or belts.

And to expand on this, how about recommendations on grinders and mills. I know I don't like the Square Wheel, but have not tried a Baldor or the new grinders that have come out in the past four or five years? As for mills a local hobby store has a Sherline, and like it. But are there any others out there?

Thanks,
Garrett

The Bitterness Of Poor Quality Remains Long After The Sweetness Of Low Price Is Forgotten

Two years ago I bought a used Unimat 3 micro lathe/mill combination. The Unimat turned out to be indispensable tool because of its precision and flexability. I use the lathe to make piviot pins, thumb bobs, and spacers. The milling attachment can slot guards and cut lock notches on blades.--Ray--

Garrett you have a grinder,so I say get a mill or better get a Shop Task 3 in 1 mill drill and lathe. I have had one for about a year and I really like it and the people there are friendly and helpful, then get a Burr King, it is smooth and quiet. Thats my 2c,Chris. Top of Texas Knives

Harbor Freight has a 3 in one multi-machine for about $600. I have one and you will have to spend a little time fine tuning it after setup, but it works fine after that. Check their web site or one of their retail outlets. I bought mine from an outlet and caught it on sale for $499. It is not the ultimate piece of equipment, but if you take your time it will produce tight tolerance parts.
Just my 2c.

Darrel can you give me some more info on the mill that Kovel sells? The most current Kovel catalog I have is several years old and does not have the mill in it.

I was under the impression that Burr King stop making the 960?

Thanks again,
Garrett
