What to keep - what to sell?

As far as the ones you like, maybe give yourself some steeping time on them by saving for them. Rather than selling one to gain one, (which ultimately leaves your collection in a state of stagnation) save up and buy one at a time. I find the more time between each purchase the more happy I am with what I ultimately buy. (As a result of fine tuning what I really want, and of extended anticipation).

As far as having the funds for those knives that require a split second decision, many collectors have a slush fund just sitting there, waiting for those times. (I used to collect vintage guitars, which were often 50-100 times more than CRK's and had a fund just waiting for that '69 strat)...

food for thought... :)

Exactly, I'd like to keep them all, as it seems like a fairly diverse collection...but there are still a few that I'd like and wondered if some seem a bit more common that I could easily replace should I have sellers remorse.

I'd say just about anything but the Regulars would be fairly easy to come by. They are highly sought after and those that do have them tend to hold on to them. Perhaps you could sell and easily replace a Sebenza 21 model (unique or plain) as long as it doesn't have damascus. You have what looks like 2 large and 1 small plain Sebenza 21's that could raise quick funds in the exchange and would be easy to replace if you wanted them back.

Great collection, I didn't realize how big it was until I saw the video

I'll work on beefing up the slush fund.

And batosai117, I don't have but one 21, and it has spirograph damascus. I think what you might be seeing are the numbered Insingos that I have, I have a large and small....then there's another two that look like 21s, but they are "P" Sebenza's, I have a large and small of those.

Lisantica

You have a great collection and I admire so many of them, mostly your Regular plain Janes! I know its funny, but I like them. Dont sell the ones you feel turn your stomach at the thought of parting with them.

Keep the one piece, keep all of the inlays and graphics. Unless it is BG42, get rid of all of the regulars and plain classics.

It's hard to tell what is what, so here's what I currently have:

That's a great looking collection Lisa!

Any chance of seeing them all with the blades open?

The logical thing is to organize a Passaround. We'll all try them for a month or so, then give you our honest opinions.
Me first.:D

Great collection, but I am a user, and if I don't find myself using a blade I sell it, although I didn't sell that you directly, I think one of those Damascus Unique graphics was in my collection at one point. The point of knife collecting is enjoyment, if you want to make a serious investment by a financial product etc. This is a hobby, if you like it, keep it, and don't let it become a hoarders obsession. There are always new knives coming out, don't worry too much about sellers remorse.

I will keep
1.Large LDC9-15 BG42 Sebenza
2.Large "H" H13 Sebenza
3.Small UG "P" Sebenza w/Ladder Damascus
Pls let me know if you want to sell them
Thanks

Lisa, some advice from an old collector.........

Don't sell any of them unless you urgently require the money. They will always be easy to sell in the future and they will only rise in value.
However once they are gone you will struggle to replace them and I assure you that the day will come when you will regret your decision to part with them.

If you are unsure which ones to sell, keep them all and enjoy them until you are sure........:)

I think when it comes time for any collector to downsize or trim his or her collection they should think about why they are collecting them in the first place. If you are just doing it for pure monetary gain you'll need to find out which ones are the most rare / highest priced / unique knives and just keep those. If you collecting for your own enjoyment of owning / looking / using the knives then the process of downsizing just comes down to which knives you enjoy owning more and sell off those that don't do it for you - regardless of how rare they are.

I just wanted to add you have a wonderful collection that anybody would be proud to own. If it was my collection I would keep a Large Insingo to be a user, the H Sebenza, Damascus Mnandi, and whichever unique graphics models that I really liked. Personally a knife means more to me if I like the looks or it has a sentimental attachment, rather than the fact that it happens to have a "P" stamped on it.

Good luck on whatever you decide to do. I love looking at the pictures you post of your knives. Since I will never own more than a single Sebenza I just vicariously buy CRK through you and the other collectors on here.

,Greg

I think you should keep the ones you can't easily replace. In other words: keep all of them!

If you ever feel a wave of uncontrollable munificence come over you, I'll take the Large Flat Ground BG-42. ;)
