What to look for in a Bible purchase?

Esav, I need to say that Everett Fox is reputed to be a Hebrew scholar of some repute. This is not a Christian attempting to translate and to comment upon Hebrew Scripture.

I like the King James Version of the Bible. The Christmas story in the book of Luke is most poetic in this version, as are the Psalms.

My wife, the Scriptural scholar, refers to the King James Version as "the good book of great poetry." She is quite correct. Especially when I want to read the Psalms, I pick up my KJV.

I use several and my main Bible is a KJ/Amplified - it has both with the same verses on the opposite sides of the open book. As far as the compact I too want something a bit easier to read than the MICRO pockett sized but I find it almost as easy to carry my full size as anything other than the pockett book size.

As far as the folk that were sayin the bible is make believe etc - rest secure in knowing this country is and has been a christian based country no matter how much you are trying to and succeeding in changing it. The more you erode that the less powerful ,prosperous and successful we will be as a nation... its a fact jack! look at the last bunch of years and see the more of our God that ya take out of the public the worse things get.

Another option is go with something PDA based, that is what I have done and after some adapting it works well for me. I still use my paper bibles and references at home for serious study, but it is incredably handy to have it on my Palm (Tungsten E2). Olivetree makes exceptional reader that is free to download and they even have several versions for free such as the Modern KJV. MKJV can at least give you a feel for how you will like the software and if it will work for you. If you search there are other readers out there, but I like Olivetree best. I e-mailed them a question about the software and it was corrected in the next version release, a couple weeks later.

As far as versions, I like NIV, NKJV, even the Amplified Bible and The Message for study, but for daily reading I prefer NASB.
