What to look for in a buffer? This one?

It always seems to be the 1,800 RPM, 3/4 HP Baldor that gets most votes around here. I've wanted that one for a while now but still stuck with my HF....works well enough for me for now though.

Was told with it's 3,600 RPM that I should stick to 6" wheels....anything bigger would get to fast.

The best bang for the buck is the Baldor 1800RPM 3/4HP buffer. It has the proper clearance and a slow enough speed. I run 10" and 12" buffs on it with good results.

If you build one and use a belt drive for an arbor shaft, use a 1" shaft that is at least 18" long ( 24" is better). The ends need left and right threading. Run it on a 3/4HP to 1HP motor with a step pulley to give speeds between 750 and 1750 RPM with 10-12" buffs.

Hey Brian. Come on down and try mine out. I think you will fall in love and get something similar.

TP Tools has good prices and they have a Baldor 3/4 hp, 1800/3600 rpm model. Check em out. Nice blasting cabinets too!
