I never thought I would be forging hammers beacuse I only have a back yard forge. But today I found a real 1800 smithy complete with two salty blacksmith in a village close by. The smithy has a functional central leather belt power axel with a drill and a power hammer.

I asked if I could come by and forge a hammer and was told it was ok I I brougt my own material. Now I wounder what to bring from the scrap yard if I want to forge a 2 pound dog face hammer?

I made several hammers of truck axels & hydraulic cylinder rams.
One truck axel can make many hammers... Its claimed most are 4140 or in that ballpark.
Its really cool looking effect using the splined section

Depends how big your hammer desired, you might consider cutting down a railway spike maul.
Save allot of work not drifting an eye...
On the other hand, I dont know if spike maul is a common thing in Sweden. My technical education is USA based... I think most of SJ is a concrete sleeper bolted.

You could look for a big old jackhammer bit too, some will be S-series tool steel.
I've made doghead hammers by sawing off one side of a double-jack sledge (works great if you find the right one) but that's seemingly not what you're wanting to do!
