What to pair with my Al Mar Hawk Ultralight

I EDC an Al Mar Hawk Ultralight and absolutely love it. I am also cycling through some of the fixed blades I have to carry along side it. None of them seem to pair so well with the Al Mar. Currently, I'm carrying a Cold Steel Secret Edge. A great knife on its own, but just doesn't seem to go well with the Al Mar. I've gone through another Cold Steel, the Pendleton Mini hunter. I really enjoyed the mini size, but that one is on the sidelines right now due to some serious damage to the blade. I have some other cheapo fixed blades I tried but , they were cheap so they didnt last long. They sit in a display case. My BK14 has also been cycled into the mix, but the sheath that came with it makes me not want to carry it. I could get an after market sheath (and plan to at some point) but that's not in the cards right now. I'm looking for something that will look nice next to the Al Mar, that kind of follows the same classic and timeless look. Not looking for anything more than a 5 inch blade. It can't be too expensive, either. I only paid about $150 for the Al Mar, and that's the max spending limit I have. I' looking for some suggestions on what would look nice next to the Al Mar. Somethat that could function as an EDC knife and maybe even a last ditch self defense option without looking to scary to a non knife person. It would be nice if it came with a decent sheath and or carry system. The Secret edge is being caried in my back right pocket with the factory sheath. You hardly ever see me without my boots on , so maybe a boot carry option as well. Any seggestion or advice would be appreciated. Oh, pictures are always more than welcome and greatly appreciated as well. Thank you in advanced.

Good Ol' Fallkniven F1

The problem with classic lines is they tend to come with a classic sheath, so you may have to look to the aftermarket for one that works for you.

The A.G. Russell Woodswalker will fit this role. Can be found here:

It's got similar styling, same great AUS-8 steel as the Hawk, and the leather pocket sheath will fit nicely into that back pocket.

And it's a long ways under your price limit.

Completely forgot about BRKT and the Fallkniven. Any testimonials for the Highland special, or even the Huntsman or Woodland special?

They're basically hand made. Going to have a little variance here and there, but all around awesome knives. Plus, you get an excuse to learn how to sharpen a convex edge. Fun!

As far as I know, yes. I'm no expert though. I've owned a whopping 2 bark river knives.

Convex sharpening is easy though, and it's just metal. Can always be resharpened at a V grind.

Perhaps a tad over budget, but I think a Spyderco Street Beat would compliment your Al Mar Hawk nicely...

Good luck, OP! :)

I suppose I should be a little clearer. I have never owned a convex blade. At least to my knowledge up to this point. I own a BRKT Mini Canadian with bamboo scales, but I have never really used it. I carried it for a while, but due to its price I feared I would lose it or damage it. Since then, though, I have come to accept the fact that my knives will get used and none of them are really for show or strictly collection purposes.

I've been doing some more searching. I have my eye on a few Bark Rivers. The Featherweight Hunter is probably the first contender. The Highland Special (as posted above). The Huntsman but the thickness might be too much. I also have my eye on a couple of A.G Russel knives as well.

One style I really like and that I am leaning towards is a drop point hunter. It's a classic and timeless design. The problems I'm having are that there a lot of them out there and I'm not sure the best place to get a knife of that design with the quality I want for my price range. Also, the standard for that design seems to dictate the size is just a little bit too big for pocket carry, at least in my opinion. Or maybe I just haven't been looking in the right places.
