What to put in EDC bag?

I guess i have a different definition of an EDC bag. I have a GOOD bag in my Jeep and the wife's car, I use my EDC bag for stuff I need to carry every day. I keep my Ipod in my a set of headphones and a set of portable speakers, also my E reader is in there. I found that most days I have to survive a dose of boredom more often than I have to survive a SHTF situation. I also keep a pair of sunglasses some chap stick and a small tube of sunscreen in mine. You may want to consider a comprehensive first aid kit but before you get too in depth into the first aid stuff look into a good training course for the stuff you are gonna get and use.

Not sure I understand this thread. If we're talking an EDC bag then are we talking about having this bag on us everywhere we go. To me that's the only thing that makes it EDC. And if that's the case I'm not sure why some of the items would even be in the bag? Maybe I'm not understanding this whole concept.

I only carry a few essentials that are a pain to carry else wear. I carry a spare folder, some para cord, a lighter, a multi tool, Imodium, Excedrin, aspirin, mechanics wear gloves, ipod ear phones and a flashlight. I need to add a few small first aid items like band aids, tweesers, gauze, alcohol whips and a spare phone charger. Thats about all i carry in my EDC bag, Imo people go overboard with things in these bags, simple is better.

Lets see in my maxpedition edc I have surefire g2 flashlight, small can oc spray, on lanyard in side pocket is mini streamlite flashligt p38, whistle, and lift my fire firesteel. I have a victorinox spirit tool pair of mechanix gloves, salt and pepper in a plastic match holder, a light my fire spark, Nathan laboratory 750ml stainless hydration bottle, and a travel size bottle of ibuprophen. In the mesh pocket I have a granola bar and two beef stick snacks. I also have a small bottle of hand sanitizer. I know I could put more but this suits my normal everyday needs. Plus it keeps my bag light and leaves the main pocket open to put aquired materials into it.

That's because of bag and gear saturation. Some folks are separating the EDC from the more emergency-oriented gear, others are having a tough time figuring out the two because they are confused on the issue.

My "EDC" changes once Autumn hits because that means cold is coming and I carry more of a "survival kit" oriented EDC bag or the components in my pockets.

If I lived in a rural area or an area adjacent to wilderness, I would EDC a "survival kit" consistently. But for a suburban area where I am only a couple miles from home at any given time, I don't really have to concern myself with that unless it is cold and I am prepping for some type of disaster during that season, which I do.

I normally have a G26 IWB on me at all times. The 19 just stays in the bag so I always have at least one gun with me.

You mentioned the cell phone charger using AA batteries. That is an awesome idea and I need to look into getting one for the iphone. I've had it go dead on me more than a few times.

Just an idea but iwas watching The best deffense survival on the outdoor channel and i remember the Mike guy doing a piece on this. and instead of using a battery powered phone charger he uses a solor one. it fold up vey compact and comes with all the adapters for phones and mp3 players. just something to check out .

I think a multi-tool with a bit-kit is essential. Also its nice to have a camera with you at all times.

Hand sanitizer (can improvise as a fire starter, too), surgical gloves (in case you need to do any first aid or touch other nastiness), permanent markers (I like sharpies), dental floss (many uses), electrical tape, safety pins, water purification tabs.

I also have a Maxped Versi Jumbo - in the water bottle pouch I also tucked a glacier SS cup - can cook/boil with it... it's tight, but fits, and a nalgene-sized bottle nests into it. I also tucked away some clif bars, gloves, hat, bandana, and other stuff.

I found the bag holds a lot more than I initially expected to have, so I kept adding items that meet these 2 criteria:
1) Can use it to serve multiple functions
2) It can serve as a backup to some other item I have (2 is 1, 1 is none)

I think some of you must be living a LONG way from civilization to be carrying stuff like this on your person at all times. Or you find yourself suddenly transported from "cubicle #5" to the Florida Everglades with no warning.

I've never really referred to it as an EDC bag, but I carry a maxpedition around that has:

1. small first aid kid (including safety pins, lighter, sunscreen, etc)
2. wet wipes
3. a few snacks for the kids
4. an extra cell phone charger
5. a swiss army knife
6. hand sanitizer
7. a tide stain pen
8. extra ammo
9. pens and writing paper
10. handkerchief
11. extra flashlight
12. water bottle
13. Small amount of duct tape folded over
14. a film canister of quarters (keeps the kids occupied with video games while we wait on the table at Red Robin.)
15. A whistle with a safety pin attached to it (if we are at a very crowded event, I will pin it to my kid's shirt and he knows if we get separated to blow it right away.)
16. Extra cash
17. Small book if I'm going to have to wait somewhere, like while the kids play at the park.
18. Sometimes a small, point and shoot camera.

Man, I think THAT is a lot of stuff to carry around.

I can't imagine carrying an ESEE 5 with me everywhere I went. I guess, I could see needing a fire-starter to get warm in an emergency situation. But, then again, for me, I think I'd rather just pop into Starbucks, get some hot tea and sit by the fire for a few minutes.

I'm all for being prepared but sometime we seem to prepare for zombies and the apocalypse and don't have cash to get through the next toll booth, a handkerchief to wipe our hands, or a pen to write down a phone number.

WOW! You guys carry a metric ton of stuff. I have spent a lot of my life, 100+ miles from town. Spent 8 summmers growing up in the Emmigrant WIlderness, in a cow camp, we had to pack in a horse back 4 miles to get to it. In all the remote places I have ever lived (lots of them no running water/electricity), the only things I ALWAYS kept handy was matches, and a knife. When I got older, I started having a pistol and or rifle in the pickup everywhere I went. No offense, but seriously, in town, do you really NEED to tout all the stuff around?

When I go to town, all I carry is a sigp220 iwb, and maybe a spare mag, and a pocket knife. I would go nuts, personally, lugging all that stuff around. I like to travel fast and lite.

I like to travel light if I can.
Aside from the knife in my pocket, there's a small flashlight, prybar and Victorinox classic on my keychain.
If I'm away from the car, I'll usually take a smallish backpack with some water, a granola bar or two, first aid kit, some gloves, a toque and a few rubbers. All packs up small, all come in handy.

I assume this is your bag you tote daily to work ?
not a wood bumming bag ?
My EDC only thing missing from pic is my Zippo & Oakley's :o
