What to use to regrind

I may have over exaggerated a bit on a mower blade in that kind of shape but it's still fast. Same here a 36 grit blaze belt. Then all the way through the progression to a6 trizact and then 1u and 5u on linen. Very sharp. That would've taken about s week on a Norton India stone and it wouldn't be close to as sharp or perfectly convex. And yes I kept it cool. I know mower blades and knives are not exactly just suggesting other uses for a grinder. Also wood and other material shaping, glass polishing, etc. And yes if you're not paying attention edge tempering

cool sounds good =)

I managed to track down a discontinued Lansky extra coarse diamond which is 70grit to my understanding for $25, that should fit my needs nicely not just for this but various of my sharpening needs. Picked up the D2 knife and we see how this little project goes.

Are you going to use it freehand? The Lasky system allows you to set a lower edge but you can't thin with it

I should have said that originally a Lansky 6x2 extra coarse diamond benchstone is what I bought.

Oh sorry that'll do it. I always forget they offer more than the one guide rod thingy

Bob, I'm staying tuned to this! Keep us posted w/ pics, love to see results!

I try to but this may take awhile to get around to doing this. This is basically a present to myself to keep my sanity for all the ongoing work I've been doing to my car so I have something to distract myself with other than more car work. I'm one of those guys who owns a car which is old and have had a very abused life but didn't realize how bad the car was till recently. So for the last month I've been learning as much as I could about cars and fixing it up as much as I could in my free time, and I have no end in sight so far. My goal is to at least reprofile the new knife and put it to work on the car immediately as my Ka-Bar Dozier has been seeing a lot of action on the car lately and I think it be a shame for this knife to miss so many opportunities to be used.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

MAAAAAYBE diamond stones... I used a arkanasaw stone in an attempt to grind pits out of mild steel once... an hour later it was done, but some of the scratches took 3 hours to remove.

I already bought a Lansky 6x2 Extra Coarse Diamond stone (70 grit), and a CBN stone of unknown grit which is 4x2 which I just wanted to test out since I started the thread. Now I just have to wait for everything to arrive.

I have also considered buying a EC dmt stone purely for the purpose of fixing pitting. Although the only pitted knife I have is an old kitchen knife I am experimenting with.

I know this thread is a few months old, but I was curious as to how things have worked out for you?

I would have used my 1x30 and gator belt progression to 400 then a medium scotch brite belt for finish. But it's is only because I already have them.
Otherwise I would have went the dmt route (xxc or xc and fine) used them for sharpening from there on out. D2 loves a dmt coarse edge!

how about an atoma 140 plate? they cut quickly and aggressively, since u mentioned u want to do it by hand. another excellent choice is the DMT XXC like HeavyHanded said
