I have a question for those of you who have experience in sharpening O1 steel. I never had a knife in this kind of steel before.
Since this is the NWA knife that Nick made for me I would like to know what you guys use to sharpen yours? Even those of you have other in O1 I can use your input on this if you don't mind. Does it sharpen like 1095 or more like D2?

In my experience, it's in between but not dead-center. More like it leans a little in the direction of 1095. It's easy and quick to sharpen but still holds an edge considerably longer than any production-type knife I have owned. It's a great balance - an excellent knife steel, in my opinion. I use a double-sided strop with green Mibro #2 on one side and white Dico WR1 on the other
but I use that on 1095, D2, A2, S30, 12C27.... This method brings them all around quickly.

O1 is very easy to get along with.

i use sandpaper on mousepad for a convex edge to 1200 grit, followed by a loaded leather strop.

going to pick up some paper up to 2000 grit in the future, and have some .5 micron film coming in the mail...

Get a Spyderco Sharpmaker and make a strop.......never look back :D

I use the sharpMaker and the edgeMaker Pro and touch them up often. If they get to bad I use a fine DMT stone then finish with the SharpMaker.

I always recommend some type of diamond hone. It just makes the job easier. If you go the mousepad/sandpaper route, look for silicon carbide paper.

Scotts train of thought is the same as mine. I use the Gatco diamond stone kit, I know many folks frown upon this type of system but it works pretty good for me. Also, it is what I used to sharpen your knife, before I shipped it. I use the 22 deg. setting.

I also finish with a ceramic stone by Gatco as well.

Hello, I use Norton stones. I'm a butcher and I've tryed em all....
The other one i use is Dmt Dimond stones. The blue one. It cost me 45 bucks but that was about 2 years ago. and it still works great.

The Norton's are expensive, I got those from my work because they fell and broke. so i didnt pay fer dem. They are made in the USA. Smith makes good ones to.
