What tool(s) on your SAK/multitool do you use most?

I remember there was a thread on this in the hoods woods forum.

For me, the blade and the saw.

Seriously, large blade and scissors.

It's not a SAK, but I use a Leatherman Super Tool 200. I use the blade (obviously!) and I use the serrated one quite a bit too. The pliers and file/rasp get quite a bit of use too. One important thing to note is that, being in Canada, you likely won't need much in the way of slotted screwdrivers. I wish the phillips was a #1 as well (it's between a #1 and #2). When is someone going to include a #2 Robertson driver on one of these?...There's enough ways to pop a bottlecap that I don't need to carry one...the can opener works great, but a little awkward for a lefty !

In order of frequency of use
1.Large blade
2.Toothpick
3.Scissors
4.Hook (with nail file on the back)
5.Canopener, or combo canopener/bottle opener tool (depending on which SAK i'm carrying).
6.Precision mini screwdriver contained in the corkscrew
7. Saw
8.Corkscrew
9.Awl

1 and 2 are used daily (been eating a lot of fruit lately). Besides the obvious use the toothpick is also used to clean out dirt and lint from the nooks and crannies in my pocket knives.
3 and 4 are used 2-3 times a week to trim/maintain fingernails.
5 is used a couple of times a week for can/bottle opening and light prying.
6 is used 2-3 times a month for tightening screws in my glasses.
7 is used 3-4 times a month.
8 and 9 are used maybe once a month, actually i use the awl a little less often than the corkscrew.

In order of my usage: Large Blade, screw driver (flat and phillips heads), tweezers for splinters, tooth pick, and finally the awl for poking holes in belts and other things. Which model? The Adventurer. I don't care much for SAK scissors. I only sometimes carry a SAK that has a saw blade and file. I have a number of different SAKs but the Adventurer is my current favorite.

In the woods, the tools I use the most are of course the large blade, wood saw and scissors. My favorite vics are the fieldmaster and ranger, great combination of tools in a small package. The hiker and farmer is also a good choice, just throw in a classic for the scissors.

Vic Compact EDC; Sissors, Blade, Nail File, Tooth Pick and Pen (My favorate Vic EDC)
Vic Fieldmaster; Large and Small Blades, Sissors, Phillips Screwdriver, Saw and Cap Lifter
Leath. Blast (EDC) Pliers, Phillips Screwdriver, Wire Cutters Flat Bladed Screwdrivers
All good tools!!

I've had this problem recently, too. I really like my LM Wave, but it's just got too much weight to make it worth carrying into the woods. Like you said, if there were anything mechanical coming along, it would be well worth it. But when your talking about bushcraft it's just more difficult for me to justify.

So far I've not seen an SAK that has everything I've wanted, forgiving that one wouldn't have decent pliers. I usually want:

-strong main blade (perferably lockable)
-can opener
-saw
-awl (that's a big one)
-tweezers

I think that the Farmer model is close to that one. That's about all I can think of now...

I usually carry a SAK explorer in my front left pocket. Every tool onit has been used at one time or another. The wire stripper has fixed almost every lamp in the house,I really like that stripper. It makes it easier than a proper stripper for me,I don't end up cutting through the wire(I am not the best handyman). The knife blades see day to day use, making lunch at work, trimming and grooming, scissors used for moustache, nails, hangnails, etc. It has a forward aiming phillips driver as opposed to perpendicular off the back, much handier. The magnifying glass gets used to read dates and stuff on coins regularily. Toothpick,at least three times a day. I am almost as fast with the can opener as an electric one and I can use the can opener for removing staples. I use to get metal slivers all the time (snap ties) so tweezers, mag. glass and a rare earth magnet from my pocket make a good combination for removing those. The awl/reamer,I can't remember the last time I used it but most of my belts have had extra holes installed by it. I also carry a Swisstool Plus for the pliers, saw and wrench capabilities. It comes with a little rack to hold bits so you can go get your own bits like robertson or hexhead. With the swisstool set up properly I can totally repair my mountain bike. So far, fingers crossed.

I always EDC my Rucksack. Other items may get added or left behind but my Ruck goes everywhere (except the airport. Different thread). However, if you are already carrying a fixed blade, I would recommend a smaller plier based tool, such as a Leatherman Juice or Fuse. I would get the needlenose over the blunt.

As an aside. While out and about, I use most of my SAK tools on a regular basis. While not the one used most often, the one hardest to do without might be the can opener. I've opened cans with a stout fixed blade knife but hope to never do it again. When you need a can opener, there is rarely an easy way around it.

I'm probably odd, but-

SAK outrider- scissors, screwdrivers, bottle opener, can opener, and corkscrew. Most of us in the household don't even use the kitchen tools anymore, we all have corkscrews and openers in our pocketys.

Leatherman crunch- the vise grips.

I also use thye saw blade on the SAK a few times a week, the blade randomly when my fixed blade isn't on me for one reason or another, and once in a blue moon the file on the leatherman. if the leatherman had 4,5, and 6mm hex keys and a different size phillips than the SAK, I'd use that more than anything that's included.
