What tools in BOB?

I have looked at, and already own, many of the tools recommended. For me they are just too heavy to pack. I carry a RMJ Kestrel and that will have to suffice. The last time I had to get into a locked building (legally), it turned out that it had an indoor grill with an external cleanout door. I was able to crawl inside the grill and move the grates to get in. The point is that there is often another way in which to bypass locks, chains, and fences.

If you can get one a slim Jim is a good tool to have in an urban survival situation. Just learn how to use it before hand. Sometimes it’s better than breaking a window.

Just having a single Slim Jim will only get you in a limited number of vehicles nowadays. You would need a minimum of about six car opening tools to even begin to have a well-rounded kit. On the other hand, you can limit yourself to what you might have to get into for shelter and learn what is easy to pick and what is very difficult to pick in the automotive world and then get a folding Slim Jim like HPC makes just to round things out.

Don't forget a Knives of Alaska Titanium hobo set so you can eat your close dated yogurt and eat those sauteed morels right out of the frying pan.

I posted this on another thread :

It's a modified version of the Chinese Military shovel sans fold-able feature.

Only if the handle is Al.....

On a real world scenario, my neighbor suspected his lock was changed so i helped him to "access" his steel door via prying, hammering and eventually bent the steel rod and destroyed the lock (for describing purpose this is just an example;it's the middle portion where i accessed)...with a Dead On Annihilator tool.

Not many think of this, but if you wear glasses pack a extra pair in a hard case. Best tool is your site. Imo

Mountaineering helmets are more designed for falling objects than bike helmets, if you have no other reason to carry one. I'd be thinking a 6-8" crescent wrench might come in handy for not much weight. climbing gear in general needs familiarity to make work well, but each to his own. I also carry socks most of the time. never know when you will want a good pair of hiking socks.

Best thing for cars now is a small airbag which you put inbetween the door and door jam, pump it up then place a wedge in its place. Then use any long thing to push the lock button, I've used the ars antenna, usually they unscrew easy and are nice and flexible. The airbag system is what all AAA tow truck drivers use now a days, that's where I got mine from a buddy who is part owner of a local towing company. It's really handy and way easier then fiddling around with a slimjim and like someone said a lot of cars now a slim Jim won't open. Usually if an alarm is going off you can pop the hood go for the fuse box and it's usually a big ole fuse that takes care of the alarm, or if it runs on the cars horn just disconnect the actual horn and your all set. Now you just gota learn to Hotwire cars or get the steering colum multi keys for individual car brands and carry a bunch or just a couple and focus on those types of cars. Have fun.

If someone catches you stealing their car in a chaotic social situation you will have problems.

An urban kit should contain comfortable clothing and comfortable shoes. Socks, gloves, hat, underpants and socks. Some food and water. Maybe some first aid stuff. A spare cellphone. Then you just need to have several escape routes planned. The rest you tailor to your situation. Dust masks, lights, safety equipment etc

Those exfiltration tools probably will not see a lot of use, it is easier to go around an obstacle than to power through it. Also the ones sturdy enough are prohibitively heavy to be carrying around with you.
