What traditional brands do you collect or carry ?

Oh man!! Bob, those Bruckmanns are gorgeous (and I'm not usually a corkscrew fan)!!:thumbup: Are a lot of the covers acrylic? Those kind of "marbled" or "swirly" ones look fantastic! (The wood covers are also knockouts :p) I don't think I've even heard of Bruckmann knives before, and now I have a deep yearning for one (or more) :D

The man-made handle materials are most likely all celluloid. The bottom knife with the gray has my favorite celluloid pattern, "cracked ice." The lower left with the light bands is a common celluloid most often referred to as French Ivory. The two with the solid color may be celluloid, or they could possibly be some type of plastic.

Four or five of the remainder are cattle horn. Some examples I have are obviously cattle horn, while some others are probably "cattle horn celluloid"; I can't always tell.

Not all Bruckmann knives have corkscrews, but the brand is known for them. Here's one without:

Thanks for the handle info, Bob. I wouldn't get any work done for a week if I had those knives; I'd just be gazing at and fondling them 24/7.

Bob....how many 2OT's do you have in your collection?

Only one, and it's used. In fact it's the only used knife in the entire Old Timer cabinet. :(
You can see it in that picture, top left in front of the Prince Albert can.

Looking back I've probably carried Case more than anything else. Lately Case and GEC. I tend to carry the same knife for a while, until another one comes along that I'm amored with. I'll dig out an antique once in a while to keep it real.

Thanks again guys . Some of these knives and collections are pretty inspiring . The one thing that stands out right away about the traditional folders is the variety of styles and the usually high level of fit and finish , making them as visually pleasing as they are useful . Now to do my homework and then chase down one of these for myself . Did I say one ? LOL I'm funny sometimes .

Carry or use: CASE/BOSE, Ruana fixed, Japanese kitchen, Buck (fixed).
Collect, pattern: stockman, cattle, fixed hunting, folding hunter, jacks, muskrats
Collect, brands: Schrade (the real ones), CASE (pre-1971), WESTERN, Boulder (fixed), GEC, REMINGTON UMC (fixed), smatterings of many good makers, like Boker (German only), Cattaraugus, KABAR, etc., etc., etc.
(Some) Japanese kitchen knives are very fine. Otherwise I don't allow any Asian knives on the property.
Collect, age range: mostly older, but there is some very fine newer stuff, as well.
I purchase from different sources, but EBAY is my main source.
I learned later than ideal, that Bernard Levine was correct when he said a person should identify a narrow genre, learn all possible about it and stick with it, without getting too far afield. It took me awhile to do that, and now I have many many knives to re-distribute, and I am not really looking forward to that onerous process.
